visit an antiquarian bookstore – browse slowly, enjoy the atmosphere, talk to the shopkeeper
go to a library – the oldest you can find
visit (outdoor) museums, castles, old ruins or a botanical garden
wander around an old city or the old town of a city – take pictures of small, interesting details & don’t forget to look up too
find the most dark academia spots in your city – go there with a coffee & journal in black ink
read in a park or a garden – under apple trees or old oaks
go for a walk in the early morning or late evening – enjoy the cooler air
go to a farmer’s market – buy fresh vegetables & fruit, talk to the sellers
if you have money: book a staycation at a castle or manor hotel or just an old town near you
go to the countryside – bicycle, run through meadows, have picnics, eat breakfast outside
pick flowers & dry or press them – decorate your home with them
spend time offline – watch the sunrise or sunset, listen to the birds singing, simply sit still & let yourself sense the world around you
go for a swim during the golden hour
do some sports – horse riding, rowing, ballet or even football
read poems & plays out loud
write poetry – even if it’s bad
write letters (even to imaginary people) – seal them nicely
light candles on cooler or grey days – do not turn on electric lights
learn new ways to do your hair – try ribbons & new types of braids
paint your nails – dark red, black, beige or just a neutral light pink are very dark academia choices
hang out in the house in only your favourite underwear & an oversized white shirt to stay cool – perhaps add lipstick, if you’re feeling it
plan for the next academic year – make lists, write goals & find new tips to try
do some research into a topic you usually don’t have the time to study – ancient greece & rome, 18th century philosophers, whatever you enjoy!
learn a language or deepen your skills in one you already know – read & watch old films, even if you don’t understand everything!
do an online course – or take one at a university or a community college near you
practice an instrument – in the lack of one, try classical or jazz singing
take a pottery or oil painting class
make iced coffee – drink it at an open window in the early morning
brew tea on rainy days – listen to the rain hit the roof or windows
find a signature cocktail or wine (it can be alcohol free, of course) – enjoy your drink of choice from a beautiful, thrifted glass
