What is this blog anyways?
I created this blog to have a space to archive photos and text from zoological sources and things that would be useful to me in future research. This involves a lot of looking through my local library/archive, ordering books from other libraries, looking at the internet archive/biodiversity heritage library, and occasionally buying the books for myself. I'll also post nature documentaries that I can find.
This blog also functions as a space for me to talk about my academic work. Previous research includes the London Zoo functioning as a rudimentary welfare state apparatus from 1919-1939 with an emphasis on the policies implemented by the Zoological Society of London's Secretaries Peter Chalmers Mitchell and Julian Huxley. Current research involves a more intimate look at the Huxley family pre-WWI.
Who are you?
I'm a person that really loves British animal history/Evolutionary history in Britain! I mostly look at the period spanning from 1880 to 1939.
I'd really like it if you could submit me pictures of your trips to zoos. They can be from anywhere at any time, I would just like the name of the zoo and the year, if it's possible. You can also submit historical pictures of animals! I'd love to know the year/source for that as well.
