a  :  it  is  ,  unfortunately  ,  more  complex  than  i  could  ever  explain  .  thousands  of  years  i  spent  in  the  afterlife  and  still  i’d  have  issue  .  nor  have  i  ever  understood  the  interest  .  why  spend  your  life  wondering  about  death  ,  especially  with  the  life  you  can  lead  ?  i’ve  barely  spent  any  time  on  earth  ,  and  i  don’t  think  i’ll  ever  tire  of  it  .  the  earth  fascinates  me  more  than  anything  i’ve  seen  in  my  mother’s  land  of  death  .

should  anyone  bring  up  the  true  lab  in  front  of  alphys  ,  mettaton  is  quick  to  shut  them  down  ,  despite  his  usual  need  to  people  -  please  .  in  the  most  passive  sense  possible  ,  he  doesn’t  care  about  what  happened  in  true  lab  .  it  all  worked  out  in  the  end  anyway  ,  right  ?  so  who  cares  .  alphys  is  his  best  friend  ,  and  he  couldn’t  care  what  happened  down  there  .

mettaton  idolizes  humanity  because  he  has  that  habit  with  everything  -  he’s  been  unsatisfied  with  his  body  /  closeted  so  long  that  he  has  a  complex  of  always  looking  even  further  ,  when  in  truth  he  genuinely  is  happy  in  the  underground  .  when  monsters  are  freed  he  isn’t  happy  .  for  others  , yes  ,  maybe  .  but  he’s  spent  the  entire  time  since  his  fight  with  frisk  making  plans  .  he’s  glad  to  be  there  ,  glad  to  accept  the  underground  as  home  ,  and  moving  forward  outside  of  it  he’s  worried  about  being  forgotten  or  seeming  small  .

it’s  amidst  frisk  fighting  asgore /  browsing  new  home  ,  as  alphys  is  repairing  mettaton  ,  that  they  finally  talk  .  mettaton  after  years  of  being  so  unhappy  with  himself  /  his  body  is  so  happy  to  be  applauded  ,  that  he  does  ignore  her  for  awhile  ,  as  well  as  napstablook  .  it’s  not  something  he’s  happy  with  in  retrospect  .  he  loves  alphys  dearly  ,  and  after  hearing  napstablook  call  on  the  show  he’s  rambling  to  alphys  as  soon  as  his  head  is  operating  .

mettaton  suffers  from  eating  issues  that  cross  over  with  his  body  dysphoria  and  desperation  for  glamour  often  .  while  he  doesn’t  need  to  eat  often  ,  ghost  and  bots  still  have  to  eat  something  .  it’s  difficult  ,  whether  it  be  eating  with  friends  or  having  not  eaten  for  awhile  .  he’ll  put  off  eating  as  long  as  he  can  , typically  .  he  wants  to  be  perfect  , wants  to  be  this  image  in  his  head  of  a  man  and  glamour  and  perfection  .  often  times  he  needs  a  nudge  .

while  it’s  a  place  with  baggage  ,  mettaton  truly  does  loves  waterfall  .  it  is  home  ,  if  nothing  else  .  sometimes  he  sits  by  the  docks  to  think  ,  and  mourns  not  being  able  to  put  his  feet  in  the  water  .

something  mettaton  especially  liked  pre  -  transition  was  the  echo  flowers  around  home  .  he’d  sit  and  listen  to  them  when  at  his  saddest  ,  and  vented  to  them  both  because  thinking  they  were  a  safe  thing  to  vent  to  and  the  slightest  hope  someone  would  hear  and  talk  back  to  him  .
