Draco and Hermione under the mistletoe đąđ
Pretend To Be My Date
Draco wasnât sure if heâd heard Granger correctly. Words made up of lettersâof verbs and dangling prepositions, simple in their use and yetâand yet, Draco couldnât make sense of them amidst the maelstrom of emotional debris they caused.
He pretended to fiddle with the tinsel in his hands so he could gather his bearings, before wrapping it around the miniature tree in their shared office. Granger kept staring at him, waiting for an answer, but Draco suddenly found that he absolutely had to position the tinsel perfectly.
Theyâd fought like wild animals all month: Granger wanted things decorated a certain way, and though Draco didnât careâwas the veritable grouch in the office every year since heâd worked in the International Relations Departmentâheâd found joy in disagreeing with every suggestion Granger had, secretly covetous of the pink flush in her cheeks, and the widening of her dark brown eyes when sheâd pointed an indignant finger at him.
Fingers snapping in front of him forced him to look up.Â
âI said, can you pretend to be my date?â she repeated, frowning. âJames from down the hall is inconveniently determined to take me to the Christmas eve party this evening, because apparently my refusal isnât a good enough reason.âÂ
The answer shouldâve been a yes. A resounding yes, but in truth, he didnât understand why she chose him. He met her eyes. âWhy me?â
She furrowed her eyebrows. âWhy not you?â She blushed when he smirked at her. âI meanâyouâre perfectly adequate, and itâs not as if you actually like me, so it works out.â
He wondered how someone so brilliant could be so oblivious. Even Potter knew of Dracoâs intentions towards Granger, and it was PotterâŚÂ
(I swear to you, Malfoy, I will cart you off to Azkaban myself if you hurt her).
Draco smiled at the memory. âWho said I donât like you, Granger? You may be a curly-haired embodiment of a nightmare, unrelenting in your passion for menial work, and the Ministryâs swot eight years running but whoâs counting, butââ
Granger reached forward and slapped her hands over his mouth.
âI will kill you,â she said, and the funny thing about Granger is that she really meant the things she said.
Dracoâs heart sped up. The warmth of her small hands on him left him dizzy, as did the now intimate arrangement of their bodies. Her chest pressed up against his, her long hair tickling the bare skin of his forearms where his shirtsleeves were rolled upâ
A bell chime sounded above their heads, and they both looked up to see mistletoe dangling above their heads, suspended in air and hanging from two silver bells.
Granger groaned, removing her hands, impressing her glare on the not-so-innocent mistletoe. âI swear Dean charmed these stupid mistletoes to activate around any two people who so much as take a step in the same direction.â Draco was surprised her glare didnât light the poor plant on fire. âI am not amused.â
âOh, I donât know,â Draco said with a wry smile. âI thought Katie and Hannahâs kiss last week was rather cute.â
She rounded on him. Draco followed her gaze as she rubbed her temples in irritation. âWell, weâre not Katie and Hannah, are we?â
âWeâre also not Lavender and Weasley either,â he said in a quieter whisper, placing a light hand on her hip.
She shivered.
âAfraid, are you? Iâm only now realising that youâve been avoiding being close to me.â It was a soft accusation, meant to draw her closer.
She sputtered, eyes widening, before sharpening her gaze and glowering at him again. âI am not!â This was accompanied by a stomp of her foot.
âProve it.â He swept light fingers over her waist to bring her to his chest, unable to look away from her, wanting to devour herâto be devoured by her.Â
âI donât have to proveââÂ
âSuch a coward so near Christmas eve, Grangerââ
A kiss, marked by hands gripping the front of his shirt, the press of her body to hisâa momentâs hesitation because though he courted her fury, he still froze because Granger was kissing him. THE Hermione Granger, the swot that heâd had an inexplicable yearning for ever since he started working in this derelict officeâ
âand then he was lifting her onto his desk, moving aside any frivolous items with a sweep of his hand. He opened his eyes briefly and saw sparkles raining down around them. The mistletoe seemed to have been⌠exploding?Â
Grangerâs legs wrapped around him, clenching, pulling him towards herâ
He forgot about everything else around him.
A loud pop! startled them some minutes (hours?) later. Granger flung herself away from him in a perfect imitation of a frightened cat. They looked up to see that the mistletoe had enlarged itself before exploding when they werenât looking.Â
âI didnât know it could do that,â Granger said in wonder. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes somehow even wider, as if she couldnât believe what theyâd just done.
Familiar with the obsessive rabbit holes she went down when she wanted to find logic in something, Draco decided to be proactive and show her what they wereâwhat they could be.
âI suspect we had a lot ofââ he gestured between them, where Granger was still clinging to him and Dracoâs arms were wrapped possessively around her waist ââtension to let out.â
He had to resist the urge to kiss her again when she bit her bottom lip. Â
âGranger?â
She met his gaze, lips thinned and eyes wide. Nervous.
âI wonât pretend to be your date for the office party.â
Her face wilted.Â
He brought her closer when she started to move away, cupping her jaw, lifting her face to meet his.Â
âBut I will be your real one, if youâll have me.â
She smiled at him. Tipped her chin up and kissed him, smiled again against his mouth, and Draco thoughtâjust maybeâthat Christmas might not be so bad after all.Â
Malfoyâs Damnable Hands
for @sumbul.Â
Hermione hates Draco Malfoyâs hands.
She has every right to hate them. Sheâs even made a list of reasons (for posterity, of course) to hand off as proof of her accusations.Â
Below is the unabridged version:
Eighth year: they were potionsâ partners. Heated cheeks and erratic heartbeats accompany stifling heat, and because Hermione has pearl dust all over her fingers, Malfoy picks up her curls and awkwardly moves them to one side so she doesnât burn it off over the heat of their cauldron.
Every nerve ending tickles as he draws closer, set to burst when the touch of his long fingers graze the back of her neck.
âYouâre going to set your hair on fire, Granger,â he admonishes.
She burns in more than one way. âAt least you will be in the direct vicinity,â she says primly.
She hears his smile when he speaks. âIâm looking forward to it.â
                     â
One year later: heâd gone off to France with his mother almost immediately after finishing at Hogwarts, and sheâd found out through the Daily Prophet.
If she was upset that he hadnât told her, she didnât show it. And when he showed up at the Leaky Cauldron one Friday whilst she was there with Luna and Ginny, she pretended her heart didnât skip a mutinous beat.
Thump, thump, thump.Â
âHey, Granger,â he says to her, when they meet in the hallway to the loo.Â
Tu-tum, tu-tump.
âHey yourself.â She hopes âher blush isnât as visible as it feels. When she looks up at him, his gaze is avid, trained on her as if memorising every minuscule detail.Â
Her tag is hanging out from the back of her blouse, and he reaches forwards with tapered fingers to tuck it back in.
She shivers under his touch, which hovers at her heated neck for a moment more than necessary. A suggestion of a touch. Her spine welcomes the tingle that tracks its way down her spine.Â
His smile is melting ice, and she fights not to step closer to him.Â
âI shouldâve writtenââ
âWho said I was waiting?â she interrupts, crossing her arms and pretending she doesnât care (she did she does she hopes itâs not obvious).
âForgive me,â he says.
Hermione pretends to consider, making a show of huffing as she leans against one wall. He looksâhappier, lighter than sheâs ever seen him before. âOh, alright,â she concedes, giving him a small smile.Â
âNo,â he says, shaking his head, and she realises the weight in his gaze is an apology meant to encompass years.
âFancy a drink?â she asks, breathless. Her first mark of forgiveness. At his dubious look, she adds, âGinny is pissed after trying some new lemony concoction at the front, and Luna smiled at you when you came in.â Hermione is tipsy enough herself, and so has the courage to step into his space and touch his arm. âChances are youâll at least survive one round.â
She relishes the way his throat bobs nervously. âLead on, then.â
The next day, she finds out that Malfoy is to join her department at the Ministry. They are going to share a cubicle. She ignores the way he twirls a quill between his fingers, glaring at him when he gives her an appraising look.Â
She is perfunctory with him. She shows him the ropes, and he nods dutifully. When he shakes her hand in thanks, she clears her throat and returns it briskly.
A few months later (evidence shows that she held out as best she could), she has him backed into the shelf of some random supply closet. His damnable hands burn fire across her hips and waist whilst she ravages his mouth.
âI wondered how long it would take, Granger.â
She kisses him harder. âShut up.âÂ
She is overwhelmed, liable to combust, really, at the way his hands press into the small of her back. He smooths his thumb over her cheekbone when theyâre catching their breath, and sheâs startled by the almost adoring look that paints his gaze. Before she can have more time to think about it, heâs lifting her up on a table strewn with linens.Â
âThis is as good of a height as any,â he says, his tone mischievous.
Her brows furrow. âFor what?â
His damnable grin (itâs a bit crooked and it will take her five more years to admit itâs her favourite part of his face) spreads wide, and then he taps the inside of her knee with his thumb.
For permission.
She opens her trembling thighs to him. His hands mark their way up her skin with reverence.
More.
Please.
Malfoy.
Say my name. His voice is an ache-filled whisper.
Draco.
                       â
Now:
âSo youâve made a list of reasons about how my hands are evil and youâve called it damnable hands.â Draco looks up at Hermione over her notes (the abridged version) with a pointed look, his brow raised.
âYes,â Hermione says most seriously. âAll of which is to tell you that youâve gone too far.â
He walks over to her desk and plants his hands on either side of her desk. Itâs still too close, as far as sheâs aware. Heâs wearing a fine-tailored suit in charcoal grey that accentuates his eyes, of which she is hard-pressed to meet fully.Â
âAnd pray tell, what have I gone too far about this time?â
Hermione huffs and stands from her chair, ignoring the flush in her cheeks that warms her skin. She moves to his side and gestures to the thin silver chain adorned by a sapphire that rests on her breastbone. âThis necklace.â
He frowns. Itâs not adorable. âDid you not like it?â
âI did, butââ
âI could exchange it for something better if youâd likeââ
âNo!â She blushes, then glares at his smirk. âItâs the way you put it on.â
âHow did Iââ He grins at her, seeming to realise what she means. Damnable man. Seven years theyâve been working together, and heâs seemed to memorise all her tells. âAre you so licentious, Granger, that even an innocent gesture such as putting a necklace on you is obscene?â
She scoffs. Thankfully, sheâs had the same amount of âtime to memorise all there is to him. âNothing is quite so innocent where youâre involved.âÂ
âSo if IâŚâ He reaches for her, tracing his fingers over the thin skin of her neck, then palming her throat. She inhales a breath, but it does no good. âI can feel your pulse.â
âWell, you could potentially choke me like this. Of course my heart rate will rise.â
âOr itâs a kink of yours?â
âThank you, but no thank you.â
Her heart flutters when he swipes his thumb over the curve of her jaw.
âI shall endeavour to only touch you gently then.â
She lets out a heavy sigh, as if incredibly inconvenienced. He smiles at her. âYou better.â
Hands move to cup her face, his mouth (she makes a note to make a list of how she hates that part of him as well) presses against hers.Â
âIâve an idea that involves both of our hands. Should you be amenable,â he whispers against her mouth.Â
She tugs at his hair and pulls him closer. Her hands feel as flimsy as paper. âAnd whatâs that?â
He smiles. âIâll tell you tonight.â
âMalfoyââ
                     â
Hermione hates Draco Malfoyâs hands.
Exception: theyâre at a dinner party, and his hand travels to hers under the table. She feels the press of his wedding ring against her palm, and smiles.

Happy Reading Anon, Iâm sorry it took a little while to get this list together. Please mind all tags!
Isolation by bexchan - He can't leave the room. Her room. And it's all the Order's fault. Confined to a small space with only the Mudblood for company, something's going to give. Maybe his sanity. Maybe not. "There," she spat. "Now your Blood's filthy too!"
Silencio by - One late night, hate turns to lust.
Apple Pies and Other Amends by ToEatAPeach - Itâs not until sheâs brought a basil and strawberry sponge cake to Neville Longbottom and his new girlfriend, Hannah Abbott, a dozen rhubarb hand-pies to Luna and Xenophilius Lovegood, and another basket of ganache-covered muffins to Dean and Seamus, that Hermione admits to herself what sheâs actually doing: sheâs making a thing of this. Amateur Cartography by worksofstone - That one-night stand with Draco Malfoy was a mistake. Hermione doesn't make mistakes, or at least she isn't supposed to. She's working hard at her Ministry career, however frustrating and pointless her job may be, and she's also got to live up to everyone's expectations as Hogwarts's most famous Muggle-born and a top-tier War Hero. So, why is she still sleeping with Draco Malfoy, ex-Death Eater and infamous pureblood? And why isn't she certain that she wants to stop?
Presque Toujours Pur by ShayaLonnie - Bellatrix's torture of Hermione uncovers a long-kept secret. Parade Of The Sun* by everythursday - Floralis Fati is a plant with the power to control time, hidden in the wild, and protected by a magic that strips people of their own while seeking to kill them. Hermione wants it to save the world. Draco wants it to save himself. Sometimes what we want can destroy us - and sometimes it can build us new again.

Lady Malfoy by 99cherries - "Miss Granger, you are in grave danger," he said slowly. "But the Ministry can offer you a safe place." "Where is this place?" Hermione said shakily. The man took a deep breath and looked into those brown eyes. "What do you know of Malfoy Manor?"

Broken by inadaze22 - Draco felt something close to pity for the woman in front of him. While that disturbed him to no end, what really disgusted him was the fact that something had broken Hermione Grangerâs spirit beyond recognition.
Hunted by bex-chan - Forced to work together when their old schoolmates start dying, Hermione & Draco must overcome their differences to solve the mysterious deaths. The tension in the office is getting rather...heated.
A Wonderful Caricature of Intimacy by Countess of Abe - Draco loves his son more than anything in the world. So, when his ex-wife plans to take his son away, Draco asks the most unlikely person for help. Hermione must decide whether changing her entire life is worth helping the man she hates unconditionally.
