THE CREATIVE SOCIETY
Frangi, Laura and I visited a meet up of artists and different studios. The event was organized by Somerset House and allowed students and emerging artists to talk and discuss the different aspects of the industry with people who form a part of it.
For me, it was a great opportunity to talk to other creative people and get a better idea of what is it like outside the university and what awaits me once I graduate. It was a very informal event and the artists and studio representatives were open and ready to answer the questions of the curious students.
I believe that this kind of events is very beneficial for all students, as it helps to get connections and get an idea of the possibilities in the art industry.
Bernstein & Andriulli studio visit in NY.
An insightful talk was given to us in New York about the usefulness of having an agent and what are the possible benefits of getting one. The talk was informative and interesting and made me consider the possibilities that an agent gives.
Education
Yeni and Matt delivered a fantastic presentation on education as an artist.
It was interesting to hear their stories and what led them to continues their education and move as a far as a PhD in Illustration.
Both artists are extremely different and have different motivations and styles. Nevertheless, they gave a lot of information and advice, particularly the advice to move on and never stop. It was exciting to follow such different journeys and learn from their experiences.
Constructed Language Workshop
An unusual experience of play with the language, specifically interesting since English is not my first language and it is not flexible enough. Was very interesting to see how can language emphasize the tone of the story or the story itself.
In animation, where sound plays an important role, the manner of the character's speech should always be considered and experimented with. This workshop allowed me to relax and experiment with the possibilities of performance, language and sound.
Notes on the talk about representation.
Extremely exciting talk, which showed to me that being in the art industry is not only about drawing but also being a creative. Alice showed me another way of looking at the industry and that there is no single direction and that it’s important to be flexible and not label yourself.
It was an insightful presentation which gave all of us a different perspective. It also gave us an insight into what it is like to be an art director and how the search for the artists happens.
The talk about the role of art in the community made it clear to me how art can interact and become part of a social group. The two speakers were covering the same topic however they have presented it from two different perspectives.
I found it very interesting how art was put into interaction with children through toys and play. What was more exciting is the fact that the children had the freedom the explore the art objects themselves, thus surprising their supervisors with creativity.
The second talk from the Talking Heads was about Collaboration. The presenters were Paddy Molloy and Clay Collective. Clay Collective focused mostly on describing their little art community which is connected through the interest in ceramics.
Paddy Molloy focused mostly on how to enter collaborations as an individual and what are the benefits of the collaboration.
The talk emphasised again the idea of networking and contacts and reflected upon the interconnection between different art disciplines. It was especially interesting for me, since I have done collaboration before and it was interesting to see what applications collaboration has in the industry.
The very first presentation of the Talking Heads was very insightful and has set the mood for the following presentations. Rose Blake was extremely informative and went into a lot of detail about her work and how she handles various situations.
All three of the presenters stressed the idea of networking and keeping contacts, as that is what helps the most to find the job. They have also mentioned the facts that rejections and is common, but we should not fear it and accept it as part of the learning process.
Overall I have enjoyed the talk, although at some moments the speakers moved away from their main topic. The theme of pitch and promote was not exactly fully focused on, however, all three speakers touched upon the subject and gave their advice and ideas.

Curious and Curiouser
One of the most exciting workshops we had during the year.
The task was to build a fort and our group managed to build the biggest and the most awesome one. It was a great task to unwind a bit and get the creativity off the paper and feel like children again.
The day was full of tasks that encouraged us to look at the detail of the world and put ourselves outside the comfort zone.
Trouble In Paradise - Create Your Own
My group has developed an interactive piece of the exhibition Trouble in Paradise. We focused on the idea of the impossibility of paradise since the notion of perfection is different for everyone. We tried to mix relaxing sounds of nature with the cacophony of the recorded opinions of people about their paradise. From that sound piece, we moved on and developed an interactive approach to the theme. We allow the audience to become part of the exhibition and attempt to visualize the idea of paradise through provided abstract and geometric shapes, thus creating an appealing but chaotic wall piece.
I am very pleased with the final result and it was extremely rewarding and intriguing to see people interact with our piece. The final outcome is satisfying and does not have a single conclusion. From the beginning I wanted to create something that will make people have the direct contact with the work, since the concept of interaction breaks the border between the work and the audience, thus continuing its life past the creator.

Key Themes - Storytelling for Children
One of the most interesting and thought out presentations. It had an interesting style and approach to presenting information to the audience, which made it attractive and intriguing. Moreover, the topic was vast and it is amazing how well the group managed to put all the relevant information in one concise presentation.
