3D Class - Adam, working with Maya
For this unit we need to learn a variety of different animation skills in order to put forward our development within the course and by doing different workshops working with multiple software we gain the skills in order to understand what works best for us moving forward into the project. I enjoyed working on the software, Maya, as I have never used it before and the keys and shortcuts were easy to understand so I managed to pick up the techniques quite quickly, especially with the first few things that we created in the program. A lot of the information that I learnt I have gained and developed throughout different classes and also by experimenting on my own as I have installed Maya 2019 onto my laptop in order to develop and get better at my 3D animation skills which I think will really help with future projects and my understanding of what I can and are able to do with this.
Finished Robot Walk Cycle - Coloured & Inked
Character Design Sheet
Finished Versions of the Character & Cast Model Sheets
I really liked the ways that these turned out, especially the colours, I do think that they go quite well together and makes the overall appearance aesthetically pleasing. I enjoyed creating these characters and also adding colour and shading/tones to the character really makes them pop and gives them an element of life that they did not have when just inked up and it was just line work.
Notes on representation & stereotypes and the uncanny
Character Research - Sally
Overall rating: 2.75/4 stars (see bottom for detail) I'll preface this by saying I'm mainly going to be examining issues with representation, and they are problems because they are all widely...
Character Research - Sally, The Nightmare Before Christmas
From looking at this website on the theme of feminism in the film The Nightmare Before Christmas, it gave me a lot more ideas and a wider variety of themes and examples that I can incorporate into my essay for this character. It is important that I look at as many things as possible so that this knowledge and understanding of not only the character but also the theme of feminism and feminism in films/TV has broadened.
Looking at secondary Research - Sally, from The nightmare Before Christmas
From watching this YouTube video I took a few notes on the subject of the video and it defiantly gave me a lot more ideas on what I could write about in terms of my essay on this character. To further my studies I want to explore some other mediums such as books or articles about this character and this could help me by giving me a better understanding of the character and also the theme of feminism, especially in films and literature.
Character Research For Sally - The Nightmare Before Christmas
Watching a YouTube video about The Nightmare Before Christmas and the idea of feminism, which is similar to what I wanted to focus on for my essay, I made a few notes on what I found interesting and some things that I could include within my essay, I plan on writing a lot more notes on this video and I will also link the video from YouTube as well.

Draft Dynamic Walk Cycle - version 3
This draft is a inked up, less sketchy version of the walk cycle seen previously, what I have done is just re-drawn all of the elements but so it is much more defined and some of the frames to flow a little bit more smoother. For the next draft, what I intend to do is make the characters head go back and forth, which will add to the dynamic effect as this will convey some of the characters’ personality to the audience. At the moment, the walk cycle is okay, it does feel like it is slightly jumpy when the character leans back the way it does. I intent to fix this with my next draft so that it flows a lot better, but in terms of the footing/legs of the character, they are good and the spacing of it flows well and it almost looks as if the character is dragging their foot across the floor which emphasizes the emotion I am trying to convey that they are tired and slugging their body across the floor.
Walk Cycle - Secondary Action Draft 3
This draft has an inked up version of the tail of the walk cycle. However, this is not the finished version, as there are still layers from TV Paint that are visible such as the sketch of the tail. I just wanted to showcase this version before the ‘final’ version of this walk cycle, to show my progress throughout the task. There is also the issue of the tail being over the left hand, what I need to do next on my final cleanup layer in TV Paint to to erase the wrist from the tail detail because in theory, the tail is over the left arm and this needs to be erased.
