In My Element ~ I “find myself” the most when I’m by a body of water, none more so when it is the seaside and the ocean. Ever since I was a student in Melbourne, I always told myself that one day, I would visit the Great Barrier Reef. Over the next 8 years, even into my working life there, I never did, partly because no one else wanted to go (which would also have made things more expensive in my frugal student mind) but partly because I was somehow wary of going alone. Another 5 years passed and I was now in Singapore, and an ocean away from where I wanted to be. Then at the end of last year, as I planned my trip to Melbourne after a long absence, I looked to the north of Australia and a little voice said, “It’s time, time to have an adventure by yourself, for yourself.” And so, after a little additional research, Cairns was my first stop in my return to the Land Down Under. Cairns was relatively fun and made some new friends but oh the Reef... I can understand why they call it Great. Though climate change has taken it’s toll on it, there was still a beauty to it that I could not put to words that refreshed my very soul as I swam about in the endless crystal blue. I just felt happy, so filled with an indescribable joy, knowing that I was in the epitome of my element. I don’t know when I will return, or if it will still be around by then, but this trip was to rejuvenate my soul, and to say aloha to the Great Barrier Reef in my own little way, though I have hope. Thank you, you beauty, and I hope you will have me back one day 😊 (at Great Barrier Reef) https://www.instagram.com/p/CALJwmIBXJz/?igshid=jb75wvun8i3x
