Best Camera In The World Right Now? So what is the best Camera (money can buy) right now? Leica M9? The Nikon D800? Or perhaps a 5d Mkiii or even a 1DX ? No in my humble option, and wait for it... its this bad boy from Canon... The £400 - Canon Powershot SX50 Wait before you go and click back on that Cats on Drugs video you have watched a 1000 times before, hear me out. Now really who has 5000 big ones to spend on a Camera? Not many people unless your selling your photos and none who does that is reading this. So really what "most" people want is good bang for the buck. As many features packed into as small as possible body. Well here are some basic features to get us started! 12.1 Megapixels – Think about it 5 Megapixels = A4 printing. How big do you want to print really? Also with 12 it is optimised for low light. 4.5 Stops Of Image Stabilization – Late one on the beers, last night? Even with the shaking of a Russell Brand on a come down, this camera actually works well even with the lens all the way out. It’s also “Intelligent” no it won’t do you home work for you, but it know if you’re on a tripod or not. UD Glass with 13 Elements – Sorry I know that almost put you to sleep with that fact, but to put it in real terms. Canon make very very good lenses and the one they shove into this Camera is no exception. 13 frames per second – (Did none tell Canon 13 is unlucky) That’s how many pictures it takes in one second. Lets compare – 5D mkii = 3.9 By the way more is better. This is a feature in the menu for high speed shooting and it is at full resolution. Right now lets go in for the kill! Zero Macro - Zero as in.. That’s 0.00 working distance! Let’s compare that to the Canon top of the range (and one of my personal favourite lenses, the 100mm 2.8 "professional" L Macro lens) : 0.3m. And shit that lens is going set you back some 700 gold coins. Doing Macro? Doing Product photos? Crushing a bug to death with a lens and focus at the same time (don't do this). Get it. The Zoom - How about 2 Miles? (That's 3.218688 kilometres, oh wait no none cares about kilometres) In Camera terms that's, 50x Zoom or to put it in grown up terms 1200mm! Back in the day Canon made a 1200mm lens, and you needed Governmental approval to own that shit. Here is one such chap, look at how happy he is, he has got his thumb up in the air and everything. (Possibly because he can now spy on the girl at the end of his street, from his mums house 2 miles away) This was taken from the older SX40 and that only had 35x zoom. So now I got you thinking... I shall go on... Full Manual Controls: and RAW Shooting... Just like the DSLR you thought you needed, it does all the manual modes so you can do all the cliché slow shutter speed light trails your tiny heart desires. And well if you fucked up your exposure (made the picture to bright) claw it back in Photoshop (despite the name it’s not really a shop) Bonus Point: You don’t have to change then lens, so you cant get crap on the Camera sensor like a DSLR. Standard Canon Hot Shoe, its got a built flash but you can use any Canon EX flashes with this bad boy. Low light this price point its fantastic due to Canon HS System (a *magic tiny computer inside that makes it good at night *Not really magic) Full HD Video: Try and buy a Camcorder (in an actual shop) go on I dare you, They are dead get one of these and you don’t need one, the video is very useable and it even shoots 120fps video which is not as its 480p. Don’t worry if you don’t know what this all means, you probably have friends and even a girlfriend. Flaws... Ok so not even the world’s best camera is without some. I just think on all Cameras now (its 2012 god dam it) Should have headphone sockets, like camcorders have had as standard since 1985. Also no microphone input again should come as standard. No Intervalometer port, basically you cant do time-lapse with this camera, which is a bit shit, no a lot shit. Crop Factor – Only people who dont ever use cameras to take pictures with care about crop factors. Its 5.6. Basically its got a relatively small sensor. Again you don’t care, I don’t blame you. Apart from that I really do think, this Camera has it all: Tons of Zoom: Check. Good Macro: Check. Good in low light: Check. Small and lightweight: Check. Really this camera has it all! Ideal Camera for: Camcorder owner users. Beginners who don’t want the bulk of DSLR, or the bollocks of carrying the bits for a Compact System Camera. Holidays, Wildlife and Perverts. Oh and one last thing if you decide to part with your cash and get one, please put a good UV filter on the end of this lens (cheap ones will give you flare and spots on you photos) scratch this lens you you've fucked it for good, scratch your UV filter and buy any another one. Despite what people tell you UV Filters do fuck all apart from protect the lens like a kind of glass condom. Ok so now you can rest in peace over what the next Camera should purchase should be and get back to watching more Cats on Drugs videos.. here you go.
