Obligatory pinned post
Hello, you can call me Vee (completely fake name) or “tumblr user davonati” if you want. I’m Jewish, brown, queer, and ND. 25 years old. She/her or he/him pronouns are both fine.
Some more things about me:
I got my undergraduate degree in Middle Eastern Studies with a focus on religion, and wrote my thesis on the Book of Samuel. I won’t give any more details because I really really don’t want anyone from real life to find this blog, but I promise I am a legitimate Biblical Scholar™, both academically and through a Jewish lens.
My main fandom activity is writing fanfiction, which you can find on AO3 also under the name davonati or linked from this post here: https://www.tumblr.com/davonati/754854710163521536/my-davidjonathan-fanfics
I’m interested in all sorts of queer Tanakh, obviously focused on David/Jonathan but I also really love transing Biblical characters’ genders. I also have a guilty pleasure special interest in Jesus Christ Superstar, which I love despite having very little interest in the New Testament. Will also include some other mythology stuff, because I am a huge nerd.
Generally I prefer to refer to characters from the Tanakh by their Hebrew names rather than the anglicized versions: David is pretty much just David, but I tend to use Yonatan, Sha’ul, etc. instead of Jonathan, Saul, etc. I guess this is kind of a religiopolitical statement? But I also just like the Hebrew names better.
Despite my love of ancient Israel, I am not a supporter of the modern state of Israel, falling somewhere between a non- and anti-Zionist. I don’t actually want to talk about it, but just know that it’s a relatively recent development (within the last year) and my old work doesn’t always reflect my current beliefs.
