Lost in Translation
She told me she loved me, said she was proud, Praised every small thing, spoke it out loud. But I saw through the veil of her hollow praise, A love like a shadow that hides in a haze.
She clung to the fact that she gave me birth, Confusing love's value with mere proof of worth. Delusions whispered, "I love you" in vain, But words without action leave only pain.
Love is a verb — not a word to repeat, It's in how you hold me, not phrases you speak. She never learned what loving means true, Just said "I love you," but never knew.
She never stopped to hear what I say, Her mind raced ahead, no time to stay. Quick to respond, but slow to see, The meaning behind my words to me.
Between our tongues, a thick, cold wall, A barrier strong, so hard to crawl. She heard my voice but not my heart, Lost in translation from the start.
Hypocrisy dressed in "I love you" guise, But actions betrayed her well-worn lies. Words empty as wind, lost in the air, A love declared, but never there.

The Demon in the Pew
She sits beneath the stained glass light, Hands clasped tight, lips moving right. Prayers flow soft, a practiced art, But shadows churn within her heart.
The choir sings of hope and peace, Yet storms inside will never cease. She wears her faith like armor thin, While darkness rages deep within.
She goes to church to cleanse her soul, But never sheds the weight or toll. The words of grace fall on deaf ears, Drowned by echoes of old fears.
She wounds the ones she's meant to love, With biting words and silence shoved. She breaks the child she should protect, Yet seeks forgiveness to deflect.
I lived beneath that bruising gaze, A hostage in her twisted maze. Her prayers couldn't shield her hate, Nor soften all the sharp debate.
The demon hides behind the cross, Counting gain, ignoring loss. She begs for healing, yet betrays— The peace she seeks still slips away.
I watch her kneel, I hear her plead, But love's not something bought or freed. The faith she claims can't mend the scars, Of broken hearts behind closed doors.

Familiar Strangers
They used to be warm, Faces I knew and held dear, Now shadows linger where light was once clear.
Words that once comforted, Now sting sharp and cold, Boundaries broken, respect bought and sold.
Laughter turns to jeers, Mocking my size, my space, Ignoring my pleas, erasing my place.
Health may have altered their mind and their mood, But that can't justify pain or crude.
So I wear a mask of forgetting and pain, Pretending I never knew them again.
For the memory of who they once were, Hurts too deeply, too much to bear.

She tosses words like stones, sharp, loud, and aimless — never measured, never kind.
Yet when I speak, every syllable must be trimmed, carefully wrapped in quiet.
Her noise is endless, mine is questioned.
She lives in storms of outbursts, while I walk on eggshells, scared to crack the fragile silence she demands but never keeps.
I learned to swallow sharp edges, to bite back the things unsaid, so she won't throw them back like weapons at my feet.
But her words? They fly free, reckless and wild, cracking the walls inside me — fractures I'm forced to bury deep.
