You and the rest of the losers were sat up on the cliff-edge at the quarry, taking a break from playing in the water for a little while and drying off. Stan watches with a clenched jaw as you and Eddie whisper among yourselves, you giggling every now and then and hitting his shoulder playfully. Richie sits beside him with the same expression, rolling his eyes every time you laugh together .

Everyone knew that you and Eddie were close. You claimed to be just best friends but nobody was fully convinced. You were very affectionate with each other, always close by each other or holding hands as you walked. Sometimes, much to Stan and Richie’s dismay, you would leave little pecks on each other’s cheeks before you separated for a class or to go home. The Losers had suspicions that you were secretly dating, Stan’s heart breaking at the thought.

He had been in love with you since the day he met you when you were both 5 and he had stayed silent all these years because he feared rejection or ruining the friendship you had but he doesn’t know how much more of your ‘flirting’, as he called it. Richie wasn’t any less sick of it. Stan was the only person he had confided in about his crush on Eddie so seeing him so lovey-dovey with one of his best friends hurt, to say the least.

In front of him stands a young boy, he is short and lean with beautiful big brown eyes that are staring curiously at Richie, freckles dusted across his nose and cheeks and pink lips that are pressed together in a tight line.

But what truly catches Richie’s attention is the hair, his silky golden long, long hair. It reaches the floor and curls around his feet and goes around the room. Richie knows he is gaping, mouth hanging open and eyes wide behind his glasses, but he thinks his reaction is justified, he has never seen someone more beautiful than the boy in front of him.

He clears his throat before he speaks. “I know not who you are, nor how I came to find you, but may I just say,” Richie’s lips curl into a smirk and he gazes at the boy with smoldering eyes, “Hello there, gorgeous.”

If they programmed it to go back to the last day of eighth grade and told his slightly less prepubescent self the same thing, he might be a little less confused.

Nonetheless, telling a little boy that he’d end his senior year in love with the kid who tormented him for most of his life will indefinitely spark some confusion.

But the Eddie from this day and age; the Eddie who is eighteen years old and has already lived through all of that, plus some, is not confused.
