Tuesdays with Morrie
“”Have you ever really had a teacher ? One who saw you as a raw but precious thing, a jewel that , with wisdom could be polished to a proud shine?””
I am really lucky that i had such wonderful teachers in many stages of my life. Although I feel blessed to have them , but this book made me realize their importance and appreciate them more.
So this book is to understand the meaning of life in simple but a thought provoking way. This is a memoir written by a student after spending the last days of his professor who was on deathbed. Since this is based on a real life incident, it was more interesting to listen the words of the man who knows he is going to die in sometime.
Professor Morrie sets the class on every tuesday with his student Mitch. It touches around all aspects of life, Love, Work, Community, Family, Aging, Death. They met for 14 tuesdays with a life lesson for each week. Mitch is running with his life in work, thinking about next car, next house, next job. I believe most of us are doing the same. Professor’s teaching leaves a great impact on Mitch’s life the way how he lives now. It changed my vision to life and will also to everyone who reads the book.
Following are the words that really inspired me,
1.“Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live”
Everyone knows that we are going to die some day, but what will you do if the day is today ? You have 24 hours time. List the things that you want to do and live everyday as your last day.
2.”Love is how you stay alive even after you are gone”
We might have lost someone who is very close to our heart, may be a friend, a relation or a teacher. You will still hear the voice of the one you love, even when they are not around you. Thus love stays forever.
3.”Invest in people”
Invest in family. Build a community of those you love and who love you. This is an investment where the returns are always higher than its principal.
4. “Detach from your emotions”
Dont cling to things, because everything is impermanent. Feel every emotion entirely and detach from them. Thus, dont let go too soon but dont hang on too long. Cry a little if you need it, then appreciate all the good things that u still have in life.
At the end, Morrie bids goodbye by saying “You will get full satisfaction only by giving”.
Thus the book gives me a total different feeling about all important things in life. Do recommend this book, If anyone deals with any kind of struggles in life . This will help them to get relief in an easy way. Overall I loved the book , it is written in very simple words with less pages.
