Gotham City

Gotham City (/ˈɡɒθəm/ GOTH-əm), or simply Gotham, is a fictional American city appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, best known as the home of Batman. The city was first identified as Batman's place of residence in Batman #4 (December 1940) and has since been the primary setting of stories featuring the character.

Gotham City is traditionally depicted as being located in the state of New Jersey,[1][2][3][4][5][6] within close proximity to Metropolis. Over the years, Gotham's look and atmosphere has been influenced by cities such as New York City,[7] which borders New Jersey, and Chicago.[8][9]

Within the DC Extended Universe, the 2016 film Suicide Squad reveals Gotham City to be located in New Jersey.[10][11] Locations used as inspiration or filming locations for Gotham City in the live-action Batman films and television series have included Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and New York City.

Gotham City (/ˈɡɒθəm/ GOTH-əm), ou simplement Gotham, est une ville américaine fictive apparaissant dans les comic books américains publiés par DC Comics. Elle est surtout connue pour être le domaine de Batman. Gotham City fut identifiée comme résidence principale de Batman pour la première fois dans Batman #4 (Décembre 1940) et a depuis été le lieu où la plupart des histoires du personnage se déroulent. Elle devient aussi l’univers urbain imaginaire où évoluent des super-héros tels que Green Lantern, Black Canary, la Société de justice d'Amérique et Anarky 1.

La cité est dépeinte comme étant proche de Metropolis, avec une vaste majorité des références de DC Comics plaçant Gotham City spécifiquement dans l’État du New Jersey2,3,4. New York City5, qui borde le New Jersey, et Chicago ont également influencé l'aspect de Gotham au fil des années6,7.

Dans l'univers cinématographique DC, le film Suicide Squad de 2016 révèle que Gotham City est localisée dans le New Jersey8,9.
