i’m still thinking about 2x08 and how merlin watched arthur grieve for his mother, start to unravel everything he thought he knew and then had to gaslight arthur back into submission to protect him. he puts the weight of the lie on himself just so arthur doesn’t have to carry it and protects him from the fallout of his own decisions. merlin is SO loyal and devoted to arthur he is constantly willing to destroy himself to stop arthur from destroying himself. this show is so agonising it fucks me UP
