TeenSapphic Magazine:
a monthly zine created for teen girls who like girls. The August 2016 issue is the first of a hopefully monthly series of issues that are largely submission-based and aim to cover many topics, including:
history / historical figures
modern resources
media recommendations
transmisogyny and racism in the lesbian + bi woman community
coming out
compulsory heterosexuality
The zine also features art submitted by contributors, ranging from photography to poetry to narratives and other mediums. Created by mods of @teensapphic, the goal of the zine is to provide a positive resource for sapphic teens in a world where such resources are lacking. A few highlights of this particular issue include:
followers’ thoughts on the use of the q slur
an article about the poet Sappho, and traditions that arose from her poetry and history
photography submitted by contributors
media reviews ranging from Hayley Kiyoko’s Cliffs Edge to the webcomic Princess Princess
The editors are all girls who like girls. Iris, along with being a lesbian, loves Buffy the Vampire Slayer and lemon sorbet. They began this zine because they wanted to help young lesbians + bi girls figure themselves out and work toward the happiness in loving girls. Andromeda is a lesbian who loves Dana Scully and sports. They began this zine because they want to spread resources and positivity that they would have found helpful when figuring out sexuality to other young sapphic girls.
Check out this link to access the zine, and if you find it in any way helpful or interesting please reblog to spread the word! We want to reach as many people as we can. If you’re interested in having your work in our next issue, follow @teensapphicmagazine to stay up to date with each issue’s submission guidelines.
