ITS MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR!!!!!!!!! @heropartnerweek !!!!!

i draw much, much less frequently these days - this is my second piece this year, actually, so i just wanted to do something loose and fun, not put too much pressure on myself. i chose the prompt first adventure; the relic fragment is the catalyst for these two's first mission, and of course it's fate that they came together like this, and end up figuring out what the relic fragment means together later on. this moment on the beach at sunset is what sets them on their world changing journey together - it casts far reaching shadows

it was so fun to participate in the @fossil-fighters-zine!!! for this two page spread i pushed myself really hard with an involved, detailed background. i had a pretty specific vision going into this and im happy to say i feel like i pulled it off >:)

shoutout pachy, my favorite vivosaur and dinosaur, and raja, who was often a part of my team in playthroughs!

added thoughts context symbolism and such;

So obviously, the prophecy looms over Susie (and the rest of them but this is about her) and that's literal here. Susie is someone who's always had ideas and expectations and roles put on her and imo that is a huge theme in the whole game, but that's an essay for another time

And she's aware of it. To be clear. But she ignores it gleefully and (perhaps, at times) naively. (looking sideways/over her shoulder; she sees it, but not head on.) everything she is, is a rejection of expectations, and so to her, dismissing the prophecy is second nature. but we can clearly see there will be consequences. even if shes got her back defiantly turned to it, the light still shines down on her, almost blindingly so.

Now, whether or not this figure, The Girl, is meant to be about susie, isnt necessarily important right now. its more important that she THINKS it is.

she has her axe casually slung over her shoulder - shes used to carrying it and wielding it, is pretty comfortable with it. this is in stark contrast to The Girl wielding the sword.

her expression being blank is also a choice. her eyes, her face, her identity. this is more about her figure, who she is and what she (doesnt) stands for. in a way, despite the brave stance, you can also see her unease (an emotion she normally does not show) and discomfort around the expectations on her shoulders (literally!). i imagine her with a somewhat neutral expression, a slight frown. serious.

she knows this is a big deal. maybe doesnt understand just how big. but she knows.
