How to Tie Your Shoes
Thirsty Thursday
BRUIN ALBUM?!
What is there to eat on The Hill? A lot.
To give you a brief description, students were asked to describe each dining area and what they serve in a few words.
To clarify for those who don’t know, dining halls are the all-you-can-eat restaurants and quick service (or take-out) are grab-and-go kind of restaurants (like a fast food place).
Dining Halls
Bruin Plate (B-Plate)
Covel
De Neve
Feast
Take Out
Bruin Cafe (B-Cafe)
Cafe 1919
Rendezvous
Late Night
I'm freaking out because I already know I will not be able to live with my assigned roommate. When is the first roommate swap? Can I switch before move in?
Hey there!
It’ll be okay!! The first roommate swap will be during the first and second week of school and arrangements can be made with your RA and the person you plan to switch with.
As for getting a room swap BEFORE move-in, you would have to email
Laila is the Residential Director of GH and can address the issue for you! :D
Pass on random acts of kindness!
BCafe - all you need to know about our sandwich shop on the hill...not really.
It's #TransferTuesday!! Kyle is a fourth year transfer student. What one UCLA event would he never miss?
Appreciating the little things.
When you just can’t at UCLA.
It’s #TransferTuesday!! Meet Tina, a transfer student and recent graduate who offers encouragement about making the most of your four years as a transfer student!
Meal Plans?!
What are these different names and what do they mean?
When you registered for housing, you were also asked for which meal plan you desired. For me, none of the names like “Bruin Premier 19″ meant anything to me. I just went with the recommended blindly. So here’s an explanation of each meal plan so you know what to expect.
Additional info:
UCLA meals work by swipes. You pay a set amount each quarter for your meal plan, which gives you a set amount of swipes. One swipe = one admission to a dining hall OR one meal at a takeout place.
If you realize you want to change your meal plan, know that there is a $25 fee to upgrade or downgrade a meal plan.
Meal Periods
Breakfast: 7AM-10AM (dining halls); 7AM-11AM (takeout)
Lunch: 11AM-2PM (dining halls); 11AM-4:59PM (takeout)
Dinner: 5PM - 8PM (dining halls, except Covel closes at 9PM); 5PM-9PM (takeout)
Late Night: 9:00PM - 12:00AM (except BCafe closes at 2AM)
On weekdays, there are 4 meal periods.
On weekends, there are 3 meal periods, because brunch is served instead of breakfast and lunch, which is from 9:30AM-2PM.
If you lose count of your swipes, you can always check with the dining hall workers. To know if you’re on track with swipes, here is the link to check. This link also tells you when which eatery is open at the moment.
If you run out of swipes, you’re allowed to pay for swipes with money put into your bruincard account.
Here’s the link to the actual website with more info.
All the feels.
What to expect when you live on the Hill...sorta?
Confused about Housing?
Here are a couple links to help you out! I’ve TL;DR a few things for those who like to skim :P
Transfer Housing Info
(tl;dr, most of what you need to know. There isn’t much difference between non-transfers and transfer, except you get to live in the awesome GH building! [Not all transfers live in GH though. Just most.])
How Housing Assignment Even Works
(tl;dr, it’s basically random unless you’ve put down your preferred roommates’ names and student ID when registering for housing. And by random, I mean they randomize those according to the short survey ya’ll took when registering for housing. Anyone with disabilities are accounted for!)
"I want to report a broken ___ in my dorm!”
(tl;dr you go here to put in a work order. It tells you on the site how to submit one. Make sure to file this if something breaks [assuming it’s not your fault] so that you’re not charged for damages at the end of the year!!)
“Where do I pay my bills?”
(tl;dr, on BruinBill. You can find it through my.ucla.edu. Log in and go to the Finances tab and click on “Bruin Bill”. Continue and it’ll direct you straight to where your bills will go and you can pay from there too!)
Moving In and Moving Out Info
(I’ll do another post about this along with what to expect in your dorm room, but here’s the official site!)
Ask Housing!
(Maybe you’re unanswered questions are in here about Housing. If not, leave a message in the tumblr’s ask box!)
Tour of GH! Everything you need to see is right in this video!
