I’ve always had a problem with people claiming that any art of a fat person is fetish art.

Drawing a fat character is not inherently fetish art. People can draw fat characters for reasons other than having a fetish.

On top of that- demonizing anyone who is attracted to fat bodies is also weird! The amount of people who have accused my previous partners of being feeders because I’m fat is horrible, especially because that has never been true.

Fat people can be hot. Fat people can be beautiful. Fat people can be sexy. It doesn’t make someone a chaser or a fetishist to believe that, and not every skinny person dating a fat person is a feeder.

This is fatphobia.

In complete honesty, my belief in copyright and piracy is that studios need to make media available 24/7 or else they lose rights to it.

You want to stop making DVDs? Cool put it on a streaming service. Want to take it off streaming services? Cool start making DVDs. You don’t want to do either? Cool you can’t take people to court for burning it onto CDs or sharing it. That’s just keeping the media alive.

And none of this “well you can go on eBay and get it for $80” nope. You need to be actively distributing it.

I'm taking the word "problematic" away from the internet (rant under the rm)

I'm so exhausted with the 'anti' mentality that has permeated fandom as of the past few years. Its not new, but the newfound prevalence of it is obnoxious at best, if not dangerous.

If the art is not perpetuating actual real world systems of oppression, exploiting real world vulnerable populations, or using elements of a culture without understanding or respecting its original context, its probably not "problematic", you're just uncomfortable and never learned how to sit with discomfort.

Fandom was founded on expression via fiction and the freedom that brings. While you can be put off, even disgusted, by what someone creates, you do not get a pass to police that fictional creation. Yes, people will create media that you find triggering, upsetting, and even repulsive. You do not have an obligation to interact with that media - unfollowing and blocking people or tags is an option, and is your responsibility.

The way the 'anti' mentality mirrors fascist ideals in attempting to enforce ideological conformity, and in upholding damaging purity based values within a space meant for free expression, is something everyone should be worried about.

To be clear: Fiction is not Reality. While you're free to feel any type of way about someone's art, your emotions are your business - not theirs. Even if their fiction depicts something taboo, or something that - outside of a fictional context - would be illegal or damaging.

Within the realm of fiction, we are able to explore things we would never want to or be able to explore in reality. Much like imaginative play with children, this exploration is extremely beneficial for trauma recovery, emotional regulation, and cognitive health. Policing this exploration is not only, frankly, fucking rude, its also damaging and can lead to increased stress, internalized shame, and a whole host of other issues.

Normalize blocking or unfollowing people who's content makes you uncomfortable, not harassing them or making unnecessary 'call outs' for fictional content.
