i am a “should i stay or should i go should return in season 5” truther because not only is it a callback to season 1 but it applies to will and mike now more than ever.

will is obviously going to offer himself as bait or straight up go against vecna hence the “if i go there will be trouble and if i stay it will be double” (remember that one dialogue in season 1 where mike or lucas said will risked himself to save the party which always stood out like a sore thumb so far because narratively we still don’t know what went against vecna and will in 1983 … yeah)

also recall that will wants to rip the band aid off with mike because he keeps receiving mixed signals (when alone, mike treats him like a god. when el is around, will is nonexistent) -> “it’s always tease tease tease you’re happy when i’m on my knees one day is fine and next is black so if you want me off your back”

but the song also works from mike’s pov because not only does he have a million things running in his head about who he is, he eventually has to pick either el or will romantically too, and he always feels like he is unwanted and not needed by others -> “this indecision’s bugging me, if you don’t want me set me free. exactly whom i’m supposed to be, don’t you know which clothes even fit me”

Then Mike just perking up because Will loves all his quirks.

Since s5 is most likely gonna be post apocalyptic, I wonder if we’ll get parallels between TWD?

Just imagine Byler getting trapped somewhere while on a supply run and they end up having to spend a couple days there and they start talking about all of their trauma together. Imagine them spending nights sleeping in turns to keep watch for demogorgons/demodogs/demo bats and them watching each other sleep and just having this sense of needing to PROTECT the other. Imagine the two of them being so in sync with each other that when they’re fighting they just KNOW when to jump in to help the other.

I could also see them geeking out together when they’re alone and pretending like they’re playing a live action version of DND with all the weapons they have. The two of them seeing a group of demobats in an old store they’re trying to get into and Mike whispers, “what’s our move, Will the Wise?” Mike feeling comfortable with himself to be nerdy because Will is the same way. The two of them singing cheesy songs on the road together on their way back to the groups base. Them getting injured and patching each other up? Calming each other when having nightmares? That hurt/comfort?

Apocalyptic Byler is going to end me-

Imagine in season 5 Will trying to distance himself from Mike, but Mike keeps worrying about him, and looking for him whenever he’s missing, similarly to season 2.

Will keeps going off because Mike just needs to leave him alone so Will can start to get over him.

And Will making passive aggressive comments about how Mike should be worrying about his girlfriend

Because wtf Will just spent so much time trying to repair Mike’s relationship with El, but NOW he’s trying to pay attention to Will?

And Mike finally snapping one night when Will runs off into the woods by himself and Mike gets so scared because he can’t FIND Will and he’s having a breakdown because he’s traumatized.

And when he finally does find Will he just snaps and starts yelling about how Will doesn’t understand how hard it was when Mike thought Will was dead season 1, and he doesn’t know what it was like seeing him be possessed season 2 and how he doesn’t understand how LOST Mike felt in Hawkins after Will moved away.

And you get the flashbacks of Mike crying on his bike, riding home after seeing Will’s body, and of Mike carrying Will’s unconscious body and of Mike looking at old pictures and drawings after Will was gone, touching the DND piece that was Will’s.

And Mike is just shaking, running his hands through his hair, and hyperventilating, because he’s never DELVED into his trauma before. He’s always pushed down his feelings and now they’re all coming out. And Will is just so shocked because Mike’s RIGHT. He didn’t realize just how much Mike cares about him.

And Mike continues, just rambling because he doesn’t know what else to do with himself, saying he’s sorry for ignoring Will constantly in season 3 and how he’s sorry he didn’t reach out to Will more in season 4 but he TRIED and he just couldn’t get through because of Joyce’s job. He’s saying he’s sorry for making Will feel like he’s not important to him because he IS. And Will finally just HUGS the poor boy and tells him it’s okay, and that HE’S sorry for making Mike worry about him and not understanding that Mike is scared of losing him too.

And Mike just cries into Will’s shoulder, FINALLY letting himself feel his feelings.

If we get a HP HBP parallel of Mike passed out after being injured, and he starts mumbling in his sleep, everyone listens closely until they can make out a faint, “Will..”

What then?!?!
