hello helldivers (or just iron will crew) followers i come with some art in regards to salem/STABLE

it honestly hit me that i havent done much writing for her when she first joined, as it was only really her and joshua at the time. however, i do think it's kinda sad how she ended up. dont get me wrong, she's an extremely capable fighter, but boy did she fall off mentally.
she was already traumatized from what she had to witness (that being both her old team dying and her leg getting blown off from the range of an explosive,) and then immediately after healing was just.. thrown back onto the battlefield? she literally had to convince herself nothing mattered and that everything was just a game (haha) so she wouldn't do something irrational (iykyk.) even then, she basically drove herself insane since with that mentality, if she gets hurt, it wont matter if its a game anyways.

slightly related, but there is a clip from helldivers that i like.. may or may not animate?? i dunno, ive been super unmotivated lately so it really depends
since im posting iron will stuff again, ive come to the realization i never actually draw their helmets or even have a full reference sheet for the ones ive made for this little project, so since im a little lazy right now, ill just show the actual armor sets i used for each of them and list what i change when i draw them.
starting with salem, since shes the first one i made and also clearly my favorite:
she uses the steel trooper armor, the ground breaker helmet, and the judgement day cape. when i draw her, however, i customize how her prosthetic arm looks quite a bit (she painted a yellow skull on the part connecting it to her body) and i give her a long belt tied into a bow. i think i have actually shown how i draw her full armor, though it was for a shitpost lol.
now, i did make a new character recently, their name is rei rivers, although they prefer to strictly go by their callsign, "GHOST." i havent drawn them quite yet since i made them literally last night, but i do have a vague idea in mind for how i'm going to go about that. they do interest me, though, so expect more on them :)
as for their armor, they use the helljumper armor, the juggernaut helmet, and the will of the people cape. not much will really change about this design when i draw it, as its already complicated enough. as for their unmasked version, i do have an idea for it, but unfortunately i did that through roblox and id prefer showing yall how they'd actually look in my art style.
a short TLDR on GHOST, though, they struggle a lot with a lot of identity issues-- they're unsure of who they really are or want to be. whether or not thats from amnesia or shame is for you to decipher.
there were also two new additions to the crew as well! ill get around to actually drawing EVERYBODY, but i would need the explicit permission of the people writing/playing them to post them. as of right now, the team, using callsigns, consists of DEADEYE, SPURS, STABLE, MOUSE, SOULLESS, SHRAPNEL, COLDCALL, SCROOGE, and GHOST. we also wrote a lot more on how the team was formed and just a lot of background information on DEADEYE, SPURS, and STABLE in general. this post is already long as shit but honestly, im willing to answer any questions about salem/STABLE and rei/GHOST, i've thought WAY too much on them for characters im larping as while playing this stupid game...
as for the others, the only one that has tumblr is the creator for DEADEYE and SPURS. his account is usually tagged whenever i post art of DEADEYE anyhow, so im sure he also wouldn't be opposed to rambling lol
Ajax is my helldivers oc, he used to be a pilot but now he's mainly the mechanic for back-up squared. (and often the pilot for them too) his ass will make the pilot coming to extract them get in the back so he can fly.
i mainly call him i9 or icarian 9 as it was his callname as a pilot whatever here's art more lore later or smth

Ajax M.(Mulberry) Brixton used to be a pilot before the war. (in the military yes, but he was poor let him be) he was actually a really good pilot but due to some small (huge) personality issues he was quite hated.
most helldivers have him muted
his team was called the "Daidalos wing" he was the number 9 of 10 "icarian" pilots (the problem children)
later he was shot down (and bombed a bit but thats war) blaming himself and with some nasty physical damage he quit to go become a mechanical engineer. (still in the military since he barely had a life without it)
he later joined the back-up squared squad (no one really knows when and he wont say)
its not shown (yet) but he has a prosthetic right leg (below the knee amputation) and as a mechanic he fixes his own prosthetics. (he purposely does a shit job so he has work and bc its always the worst when its your own shit you have to fix)
he has a hearing aid on his left ear from being too close to a bomb going off
As much as I usually love any and all aromantic/aroace headcanons, people headcanon ryland grace as aroace has been bugging me for some time now. For a long time I could put into words of why, but after talking to some friends about, i think I know why.
I know this is a bad start and makes me seem like I just hate these types of headcanons, but im aromantic, and I think this is an interesting perspective on the headcanon.
(Disclaimer, this is in no way hate toward the headcanon or people who headcanon it. Im very much a 'dont like, dont read' person, but i still really want to talk about this bc it feel people dont take my sexuality(aromantic) serious.)

I have yet to see any true reason behind headcanoning grace as aroace except for just making him aroace. which i can understand. I've done that before, but to me it feel like it actively ignore graces character and more important, it feels like it doesnt truly take into account what being aromantic specifically means. Which is where a lot of my frustration around the headcanon comes from, I think.
it feels like people are making him aroace since he doesnt inherently have much romantic tension with any characters In canon + the fact he seem content not having any romantic relationship, or at the very least doesnt seem bothered that he going to die alone(romance vise) on erid. It feels like people are saying that the only reason that he could possibly be content without a romantic relationship is if he's aromantic. Which, yes, ofc aromantic people are fine with not having a partner. But it is not impossible for an alloromantic to be fine with being single to.
Along with that, In every fanfic ive read with aroace grace that has the mate conversation that he and rocky had, have outright ignored what it said in canon— that being grace talking about his ex— in favor of making it seem like hes never had any romantic relationships.
it makes it seem like they're saying that aromantic people (and aroace by extend) can never possibly have been in a relationship before because they dont feel romantic love. This is true for some people, but i myself have been in relationships before, and I know plenty of other aromantic people who have as well or are currently in one.
It annoys me, especially when it could make for a good plotpoint of grace saying that he had a mate, but he doesn't anymore, Rocky is asking why he doesn't have a new one and grace explain why (like "it too much work" "idk i like being alone" "i dont really care for having mates").
To me the headcanon has no substance, and I haven't really seen people give it any either. A majority of aroace headcanons that I've seen has something that made people headcanon that from the beginning. Rather it bc the character outright seems annoyed or bothered by romance, the character never having been in a relationship or seemingly completely un bothered by anything romance related. I fear ryland grace is none of those things
Grace has been in a relationship before, clearly still seem at least a little bit bothered about who he was left for (aka the "now shes with mark :/" comment). We dont see him in any situation that is super romantic, but that bc the money doesn't call for it! The movie doesn't need romance, but that doesn't mean that ryland aromantic.
I feel like im being to harsh, but it just... feels like people saw a man alone in space with his best friend who is an alien and headcanoned him as aroace simply bc he was alone.
Either way, i know this isn't a good explanation of why it bothers me, but I hope it at least makes somewhat sense.
A finished commission for one of my buddies! It took me a long while to finish, but it was a LOT of fun to do! I’m very happy with the lineart and plan to work more in this style.
