Every single time I scrub bird cages, I go "there has to be an easier way" but I have yet to find one. Baron's cage is too big to take outside without two people carrying it, and Theres a flight of stairs you have to go down to get it out. We could take it apart, but the cage had to be bent slightly to put it together cause it was machined wrong. So his cage doesn't actually come apart and go back together anymore, at least not without potentially breaking it. Duchess's cage is small enough it's easier to carry out, but still a two person job cause of the stairs. I can scrub them by sticking my head in the cage with a rag, which is what I do after removing the grates and stuff, but I have to contort my body to get to everything which messes up my back and I feel like without really hosing it down I just don't get it as clean. It's very frustrating.

I feel this pain. Even with a single level house and relatvely small cage I have to have help carrying out the birds cage to scrub. But I have back issues and can’t carry a lot like that so it doesn’t get done but once a month..  Every time I do it I think the same thing. I honestly want to submit a design to someone to make the cage I want to be easy to dissemble for cleaning but secure for my birds. I have ideas in my head for easier to clean parts and a bottom that doesn’t jut out past the cage (one wall in my parents house has a line of drywall that’s messed up due to the cage having an area that sticks out above the wheels and its rubbed so much over time). Oh and removable and cleanable castors for when they get caught up.. But on a cleaning note, I’ve heard Poop-off works great but doesn’t smell too great. A shop several hours from me sells something similar but they never can keep it in stock since people prefer it..

I get a lot of questions about how to make chop, how to make sure they’re getting the right nutrients, how much to put in and things like that so I figured I’d make a quick infographic to simplify the process!

You can add as much or as little as you’d like and the numbers above are just basic guidelines to make sure you have your bases covered.  The more variety you’re able to offer the better!  

To make the diet even more varied you can keep certain ingredients that get rotated out and served fresh as opposed to frozen with the chop mix.  This way the base frozen chop doesn’t get boring, I like to give leafy greens fresh instead of mixing them in chop to prevent them from getting soggy.  This way I can also swap out different greens regularly to make sure the birds are getting a really good variety of fresh foods.

I like to rotate my chop out monthly, chop can typically last for 3+ months in the freezer but by making enough just to last a month you get more option to rotate new fresh foods in to the mix and prevent birds from getting bored with their food.
