â¨Now, I know the manga is talking about fashion, and not punk as a genre of music, but we are already seeing society being lowkey commented in the drama, through both the main characters, so it's becoming even more fitting with each ep!
As someone listening to different subgenres of punk and also different subgenres of goth, I want to add to this post by sharing some Japanese and non-japanese artists for both music and visual inspiration!
𧡠EPISODE 1
JAPAN - All-girl band with a Harajuku fashion blend (includes a bit of Jirai Kei, a bit of 2000s' aesthetic, as well as Japanese traditional clothes modernized and made darker), Hanabie (most famous song linked, being a work slave, or a ''salaryman'' in Japan) - In Japanese music, there are a lot of music blends. This band is a blend of hardcore, kawaii-gamer vocal parts, and visually, it's related to Harajuku fashion. That's a super cool street in Tokyo with lots of alt stores you can go to and get stuff from smaller local designers. I've been there and it's awesome :) I've also seen the girls in a concert this August, and they really rocked. Their songs are about the issues in Japanese society, and also just sing about being a girl's girl. You'll see gyary in the video, which is another fun 2000s Japanese aesthetic getting a second life now.
THE WORLD -The colors of the manga reminded me of this Bad Religion album -Â NO CONTROL. The music is not as harsh as the punk subgenres I listen to (crust punk), but I LOVED this as a teen. They are an '80s band, and their lyrics talk about society, how people are chained to their jobs, and all the various types of issues and lives under capitalism in the US. Pretty valid, current for 2025. P.S. This is my CLEAN HOUSE FAST album. ahahah I have been cleaning with it for years and trust me, it works.

JAPAN - Sharing a 90's punk-rock, melodic band that is the Japanese equivalent to Green Day, The Offspring, and similar! They dress in a skate, casual 2000's style, and here's a famous song from them. HI STANDARD - STAY GOLD
THE WORLD - Today featuring another US band (We'll go to the rest of the world next week) It's The Misfits, a band that fits October and Halloween because they cemented the horror punk genre with mixing punk and horror. They have a very melodic music. THE MISFITS PLAYLIST
