dreading getting up and going downstairs to start work rn because last night my cats woke me up by making a bunch of noise and when I went downstairs Nyx had what seemed to be (I'm fucking blind and did not have my glasses) a mouse in her mouth. and then she dropped it and it ran. and because it was the middle of the night and I did not know what to do I just. went back to bed. and now nyx is asleep on the bed. and I have to go downstairs and get my work laptop. I am terrified that there is another dead mouse downstairs. or worse, an alive one. pls wish me luck.

property manager asked me if I wanted some plums he picked. I said sure. he leaves me a bowl of bright yellow fruit without explanation. this is the third time one of my neighbors has innocuously asked me if I wanted fruit and then proceeded to hand me a version of that fruit that I have never seen or heard of. I don't know why this keeps happening.

I've been stuck in bed sick for a lot of this year so I've read a ton of books so far and a lot of those have been (tbh mostly lesbian) romance books. I'm thinking of making a "do I think these characters stay together" chart at the end of the year because holy shit some of these people are not compatible and I have Opinions

i finally decided to start doing this because as of today i've read 55 books this year and i knew i was going to start forgetting shit. i made myself a google form that i fill out every time i finish a romance book. here's the very preliminary stats of the first half of the year:

of the 55 books i've read in 2026, 30 are what i would consider strictly romance books (rather than genres like fantasy with a romance side story)

of those 30, 5 were M/M, 1 was F/M, and the remaining 24 were all F/F

the form questions are: 1. does this couple stay together, and 2. if they DO stay together, SHOULD they?

comments are optional but i ended up writing them for most books

i apparently think that around 45% of the couples will not stay together (and should not)

13.8% of couples got a designation of "maybe?" to the staying together question. these were mostly either YA couples or couples that i felt were too toxic but codependent to really tell for sure

41.4% were a definite yes they would stay together, HOWEVER

of the 41.4% who will stay together, 25% of them SHOULDN'T stay together, but would anyways

the 1 straight romance book was the first bridgerton book, which got an adamant NO in the should they stay together column along with this comment

this was probably my favorite comment and somehow also the most freeing the write:

we shall see what books the second half of the year brings us to round out my data

pls keep in mind that this is very unfinished (it's not even sorted by the date i finished the book lmao). it's the first iteration of this, so i'm still trying to figure out what information i'm interested in trying to collect.

how does this work? every time i finish a book, i send in a response to a google form i created, which then gets added to this sheet. i have a separate sheet that tracks all the books i read. this one is just for tracking romance books and if i think the characters will stay together.

also please note that nothing on this list indicates whether i do/don't recommend any of the books on this list. i intentionally read a lot of bad and mediocre books. if you are interested in which of these books i liked and would recommend, feel free to send an ask!

the main fields are:

classification fields (title, date finished, page count, etc)

type, meaning what genre of romance book. i currently have F/F, F/M, and M/M, but i do also have an option for Other that i haven't utilized yet. i go by what the author classifies their romance as.

would the main couple stay together? and if they do, should they? -> these are both yes/no fields. i go purely based on how i feel about the couple at the end of the book regardless of any sequels or further entries in a series

"comments on above" -> this is for comments on if i think they would stay together. this is an optional field, but i did end up writing comments for the majority of couples

"Comments on sub-couple" -> I'm not 100% sure if i'm interested in tracking sub-couples in the romance books i read, but i think i might be so i have this optional field on there. this is where i note if there is a sub-couple and write any notes about them.

"Comments on book" -> i'm not interested in rating or reviewing books, but i still have a lot of Thoughts about books and this is where i put some of them. for example:

I know I've mentioned this in passing over the last couple years but I'm on an ongoing journey to watch all of naruto with my best friend and I just got back from being at her house for the weekend where we watched like 30 episodes of naruto shippuden and when I got home after driving for 5 hours the very first thing I did was make Itachi from memory in tomodachi life. how did I do.

so i have recently developed a habit that i like to call "angry swimming" where i deal with work stress by going to the local pool and pretending to be a very vengeful mermaid for half an hour despite being 30 whole years old, and i've been doing this like 4x a week because it does actually help, and through this i've subsequently run into the issue of. uh. literally always smelling like chlorine. i do not know why. it is driving me crazy. i do my angry splashing around in the pool for 30 minutes, then immediately drive home and take a thorough shower. every time. i wash my hair thoroughly. every time. i don't even always get my hair wet in the pool because i am like a baby and don't like getting my face wet. and somehow i still always smell like pool? how. i shower as soon as im home every. single. time. please help me. why do i constantly smell like a pool. how do i stop. please tumblr help me because continuing to play my angry mermaid game at the local pool every other day is completely necessary to my mental health.

in better news, i just finished reading my 50th book this year

I will say that it does not help my currently very bad mental health caused by work stress to also have 2 separate nests of incredibly shrill birds on my roof who scream literally all hours of daylight, and it really really does not help that one of those nests is over my home office. and the other is over my bed.
