           TO BELIEVE THAT THEY’D NOT cross paths again in their infinite lifetimes would have been to continue on living in ignorance; he knows this well, and this is why he isn’t surprised to find that she once again stands before him, in such radiant glory that only a goddess could muster. a true and polar opposite to himself, creature of the depths, born of hellfire and blood and unholy spite. her kind ( those from “up above” ) always did have a penchant for sticking their noses where they didn’t belong ----- ‘least, insofar as he was concerned. he could not count the number of times an angel had come to disrupt his business on both his hands in the last few years alone; now, he’d a god to see to doing such as well? a sigh escapes harrowed lips as he turns his gaze downwards, away from her and instead towards his bloodied hands, which he works to clean by way of the handkerchief he’d procured from some jacket pocket or another.

           BROW FURROWS AS HE considers the statement, stated rather matter-of-factly; as though there was no questioning its validity. he knows better ( or, at least, he thinks he does ). moreover, he supposes he should have seen something like this coming. the other reeks of hell, and there’s no doubt he’s heard of the newly-throned king’s exploits by now, that having been said. pretender? impostor? a piss-poor one, certainly. but one all the same. he wants to laugh, but instead, he SIGHS.

      LAZILY, HE RAISES THE glass he’s so generously poured for himself ( craig, aged thirty years, and never a day less ) up and off the surface of the table; a mock-cheer to good health, if only the woman sitting across from him would humor him and reciprocate the gesture. she’s irritated with him. with his disappearance. he can’t say he blames her ( he’s fighting a war against heaven, against hell, against every odd out there ), but then, he can’t say he sees the point in getting so worked-up, either. a sigh escapes his lips. impatiently, he swirls the liquid in his tumbler around.
