Hi, Tom! My name is Sofia and I’m a 15-year old girl from Sweden. Also, I’m a proud Hiddlestoner.
Before I ”discovered” you, I was lost, in a way. I walked down the path of life that others wanted me to go and the worst part was that I had convinced myself that it was what I truly wanted. I wasn’t that open and I didn’t show my true feelings, because I thought that no one cared. For a while, when I dared show what I truly felt, people were very mean to me. Even my friends. So I closed up, became this untouchable mind, and people accepted me. I was still the school nerd, but people respected me for some odd reason.
Then I saw Thor, though I first saw you in Wallander, and I… I don’t even know what happened. I started looking at interviews with you and seeing your passion and happiness, I knew that I wanted that too. For my entire life, I have loved acting and theatre, but I never considered it as an option. I saw how you were so open with your feelings and thoughts and I just knew that I wanted to be like you; a good person. Now, I know that I want nothing more than to pursue my love. Now, I have the bravery to show what I truly feel. You gave me the courage and for that I will be forever grateful. I’ve always been scared of doing the wrong thing, of messing up. I’ve never liked taking risks because it meant that I might fail and disappoint people. You have made me braver. To see how happy you are with your work and how much you inspire people is really wonderful. I want that too. I have learned that if I follow my dreams, I might disappoint other people, but if I don’t follow them, I’ll disappoint myself. Whenever I doubt myself, I just think of you and what you would have said, and I just get a boost of courage. Thank you, Tom. Thank you for giving me the courage to follow my dreams and be a better person. Perhaps, if I am very lucky, we will work together one day.
You are a wonderful person. I have unfortunately never met you, but judging from what I’ve seen and heard from you, I can with most certainty say that you are a good person. No, a great person. I would love to meet and talk to you, if only once. The perfect scenario would to be your friend. Not your girlfriend, seeing as I’m 16 years younger unfortunately, but just your friend. I see that it’s very unlikely, but I will be more than happy with seeing you, if just once.
You are an amazing actor and I admire you greatly. When you play a character, you truly become that character, down to every little facial expression and gesture. It’s inspiring to see. You have such passion for your work. In your films and with your characters, you have made me feel so much. You’ve made me laugh, cry, smile and feel compassion for your characters and what they’re going through; whether that character be Loki, Captain Nicholls, Freddie Page or anyone else. It’s a true gift to be able to bring life to characters in such a way. If I become half as good of an actor as you one day, I’ll be the luckiest girl alive.
Your work in “The Hollow Crown” has rekindled my love for Shakespeare. I tried reading Othello a while back, but never got around to finishing it. After seeing The Hollow Crown, I decided to give it another go and I am glad that I did. There are so many beautiful lines and the story is very tragic. I continued to read some of his other work and I really want to perform some of it now. I almost blush to write that I have memorized far too many monologues from Shakespeare this summer, but it’s just so much fun, isn’t it? I think my parents are getting tired of me constantly quoting Shakespeare to remember it all. Then again, they put up with me trying to learn every Elvish line in Lord of the Rings when I was 9. Not joking.
So, to sum up this very long letter-thing: Thank you. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for giving me the courage to follow my dreams. Thank you for everything. I wish you the best in the future.
Best regards,
Sofia.
