@debilitcte sent: “I’m just always the one who gets left behind.”( from Feng Min ! ♡ )
They were in a place called Haddenfield, one of the other killers worlds, only this time, the killer had been Trickster, he already killed two of them, now, it was just Leon and Feng left, luckily, the murderous idol had no idea where they were, and he was going to use that to his advantage. There were only two generators left, the odds were a little tricky, but they’d pull through, one way, or the other.
Hearing the sound of ricochet throwing knifes bouncing around, Leon rushed to cover inside one of the buildings, quickly ducking behind a wall as the killer passed him by thankfully seeming to not notice where he was hiding. Taking a look around, he was in luck, there was another generator in this building, and it hadn’t been worked on yet. A perfect opportunity, just before he could turn his attention to the gen, Leon noticed Feng Min who was also hiding in this house, and she was looking rather down. Trickster was nowhere in sight, they were safe, for now anyway.
Leon hated people who would disregard others but themselves, Yun-Jun-Li being the one that did it the most, in a nightmare world like this, he failed to understand why anyone would willingly leave someone behind, or sell them out just so they could escape, the rookie didn’t like people who did that, and if they were going to be selfish, and only think of themselves, then Leon wanted nothing to do with them, they could just die for all he cared. No one should ever get left behind, something that Leon strongly believed in, and it wasn’t just because he was a cop – that was just the kind of person Leon was, everyone mattered in his book, and he’d do whatever he could to ensure that all his teammates would get out safely, and if he couldn’t everyone, he would at least make sure that the others left alive would escape, even if that meant putting himself a risk.
[{ ☣ }] - “Huh? Feng, what’s wrong?” He asks, his tone a bit concerned as he quietly crouches over to her, making sure to stay out of side just in case the killer was checking every single corner.
Feng Min, was someone he often found himself being thrown into trials with a lot as of late, she was a skilled technician and always seemed to know where the killer was whenever they would kick a generator, she was very Alert, a very useful ability to have, especially when killer was gen guarding. Each killer was different, using different tactics to try and get their kills or sacrifices. For whatever reason, there was this thing that always seemed to happen whenever the trials became critical, and more times than most, what she said was right, why did people always decide to just leave her behind, most of the others actually worked as a team like the original goal should always be.
Hearing her confide her feelings to him, Leon could understand why she was feeling this way, why did they do that to her so often? Did they think she wasn’t capable of surviving just because she had no defensive or counter perks? If that was the case, than he found that incredibly stupid, she was very much capable, that much, he’d seen, especially with how fast she would run after a rushed window vault, all it took was a few seconds of distance to get the upper hand, whatever everyone else thought about her, he thought different, unlike everyone else, Leon, actually believed in her.
[{ ☣ }] - “Now that you mention it, people do seem to underestimate you a lot. Which is really stupid. All of us are unique to who we are, we have our own abilities that can be used in many different ways. Forget about the doubters. I think you’re a very capable survivor, I’ve seen you escape enough to know that.”
With the killer still actively looking for them, he knew it would be a matter of time before he found them, thankfully, he hadn’t heard anymore knives being thrown their way, maybe they would be fine, even for a little bit longer. Confirming that the coast was still clear, Leon moved back away from the window and turned his head to face her.
[{ ☣ }] - “You won’t be left behind this time Feng. Stick with me, we’ll get out of this trial together. No one gets left behind on my watch.” Giving her a reassuring smile, Leon stood up and walked over to the generator.
[{ ☣ }] - “How about we get this generator going? We’ll only have one left after this, so we’re almost there, we got this.”
𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 escaping trials and life inside the entity’s realm can be boiled down to skill, tenacity and strategy, reputation is something that can be sullied and drag down everything, or at least it has in the case of feng. in her first days in the entity’s realm, when she was still unsure and learning, she chose to approach it like a game; the only thing she knew how to play. and like with any game feng played, she wanted to be the best. the rush of adrenaline and smug satisfaction that she got from breezing out of the exit gates was the closest thing she could get to her former esports victories, it fuelled her, in part it still does but she realises, after months ( or however much longer, she’s stopped keeping track ) that her competitive edge bites back on her.
everyone knows, whether they like hearing it or not, that going back for each other isn’t always the best option — sometimes the killer won’t let up and there’s nothing to do about it and sometimes there’s just no time. but there’s times where it’s a risk to go back , and early on, feng realised that when she’s bleeding , when she’s been run through for the whole trial , that she doesn’t want to go back for her team because she’s earned her win. but one too many times and people start talking around the campfire , hushed whispers among the cackling of the firewood about how she doesn’t ever help ; how she sat fiddling with a generator while meg was free to be rescue and let her die and the times she ran the killer directly to her injured teammates , as they interpreted , to take the heat off of her ( and to the day, she still maintains it wasn’t always on purpose ).
it’s hard not to be bitter when you’re literally left to die , feng knows that — bitterness is a feeling she knows well enough after all with how her former teammates all but abandoned her when she lost her competitive edge and ceased being the laser bears’ shining lion but she didn’t expect everyone to start bearing grudges. and slowly but surely , she started getting left behind. the bolder survivors went first , meg and nea leaving her on hook , blowing the generators and running away for feng to face the murderous consequences and then she noticed if the situation got tough that her survival stopped being a priority even to the plucky , better survivors like jane or even dwight , of all people.
her escape rate plummeted , and worse , she felt robbed of her victories , falling victim to the endgame , mostly , being left behind with no chance of being saved , watching her teammates purposely struggle to prolong the killer’s searches for her. it barely even bothered her enough to bring it up , she’d made her bed as a lone wolf until yunjin seemed like she was purposely letting her take the brunt of the killer’s attention and malice for the each wretched game they shared. and when feng confronted her about it , the producer just looked at her strangely , chuckling and asking her if she was serious , that they were the same , according to everyone else.
she’s been trying since then , going back for everyone she can , taking chases , twiddling wires through her oil-covered fingers as she borderline bleeds out — her strengths are limited but she tries. the damage has been done , however. she’s never been a people person , and she can’t bring herself to apologise or make it up for it more than she can in her actions. and so , she’s gotten used to being left behind , but there’s no denying for her that it sucks.
she doesn’t even know why she tells leon, it’s almost like it just slips out. she’s not stupid , she knows the odds of getting out with two generators and two survivors , it’s not good , and trying is borderline suicidal for both of them. there’s only a few survivors that have come to the fog after feng’s selfish streak , spared the consequences of her selfish actions and her tunnel vision to win and claw back what she’d lost outside of the realm , and leon’s one of them. it almost feels unfair to like him more than others only on the basis of him not having grounds to think of her as badly , but she does. maybe that’s why she feels the need to tell him that , more of an i always get left behind so you can leave me too , let me die , sneak off to the hatch , or maybe she’s just tired.
❛ i don’t think they’re doubting me , they just don’t think it’s worth coming back for me , survival of the fittest and all , why trade places and get skewered for me? if i get caught , that’s on me , you know , skill issue and all. ❜ she’s caught off guard by how kind he is about her sudden confiding in him , it’s not unexpected , he’s always nice for someone that’s lived through ghastly horrors and now having to do it on repeat but still , she could imagine the reaction if she tried to share her feelings with someone like jonah with the looming dread of a killer looking for them.
although feng’s still not above playing dirty , with such low odds of survival as a pair , it make sense to split and just hope that she’s not the one that’s caught first but it feels wrong to even consider it when he’s saying he believes in her. following his lead she took her place by the generator, tentatively beginning to adjust it, ❛ you can leave , if it gets too dicey , hide and wait for me to get hooked or bleed out, i won’t hold it against you , besides , i’m sure no one would blame you if you did. ❜ her altruism doesn’t usually extend as far as encouraging the behaviour that weighs her down but the thought of his earnest actions being for nothing doesn’t sit right with her. in an attempt to match his more optimistic energy, feng returned a smile, half-amused, ❛ if you do decide to make a run for it , promise you’ll take my toolbox out with you , yeah? otherwise you owe me a new wire spool, officer. ❜
