perhaps it is he who is ill, to have to stop a smile from forming. he is a calculating man, well aware of his limits, well aware of THE GAME. but there has always been something rotten & frustrating tying him to marcus, an exasperation. THAT THIS IS ROME; when those like tiberius work tirelessly everyday to preserve the mos maiorum, rome himself may choose to entertain himself in fantasies of change, change that has only brought them suffering. THERE IS FEAR, OF COURSE; they are somewhat similar in this, priscilla & marcus & caelestis ( though caelestis is not like them ), with their knives & threats & beautiful faces carved from marble twisted with disappointment & anger. if tiberius squints hard enough he can see something of his own wife in marcus, though he looks much younger he is certainly pretty enough in his rage. ❛ you live in a dream, in delusion, ❜ he says, elegant hand going up to touch where the knife was pressed against his neck.

in many ways, marcus is right. tiberius' son IS worthless. he may know some campaigns & has finished his military training, but he has little talent for speaking, he spends most of his time now that he is back home drinking & partying NOT WORTHY OF CAELESTIS AT ALL. but tiberius is, tiberius has always treated the seer with the utmost respect & dignity. ❛ i make no claims in knowing who you are, what you are, but she is as human as i, ❜ he barks a laugh, ❛ can you give her what a mortal man can? ❜

SHE HAD NOT KNOWN HER MOTHER. but naerys knew that she came from far - off lands. distrusted, hated even, but she was not a part of this family. in truth, naerys hoped she could have become a septa. it would have been best; that way she could stay with aemon, & instruct any of his or aegon's daughters. she did not understand why her father thought to return to the targaryen customs with her. in the worst scenario, naerys imagined being sent off to a different house, having to leave aemon & all that is dear to her behind. but in this there can be no solace. she is heading to the chopping block.
