being chronically ill is horrible, terrifying, exhausting kinda funny* because you start feeling Bad, so you go to the doctor about it. The doctor says drink water & get out of my office. You drink water but you still feel Bad so you go to another doctor. The doctor says excersise & get out of my office. You excersise and you feel Worse so you go to another doctor. Repeat until you (maybe, if you're lucky) meet the Doctor Who Gives a Fuck who tells you that you have Symptoms Disorder. You ask what that means for you and the doctor says idk but it can't be cured. You ask what can you do about it then and the doctor just goes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

*and by funny I of course mean "makes me so angry I become the joker"

the mountain goats are awesome because you’ll be having a terrible time and you’ll say hey John Darnielle what do I do and he’ll say well here’s this very specific and incredibly unrelated scenario that somehow feels similar and I got through that and you go ohhh okay the human experience is incredibly multifaceted but at the same time always interconnected and I can use the survival of millions before me to show me the way to being okay again
