Growing Ginger on The Window:DIY

Do you want to add some exotic greenery to your collection of indoor house plants? There is a great idea for you if you live in a cool temperate climate! You can easily grow ginger as a perennial both on the ground and in a container year round. Below the Zone 7 or in any other cooler part you live, you may need to grow ginger in pots to keep the plant indoors in winters.

Ginger is a warm climate herb, like garlic, it is termed as SUPERFOOD. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic properties and is well known for its ability to expedite the digestion.

Growing Ginger in Pots

To begin with, find or purchase fresh ginger roots with growth buds or eyes, which, by the way,  look similar to those of potatoes. Store-bought ginger is sometimes treated with growth retardant chemicals so you’d better keep the roots in water overnight or for a few hours.

The best time to start growing ginger is spring, or if you live in a frost-free warm climate you can grow ginger in container anytime.

Plant the rootstock 1 inch deep in the potting soil with the buds facing upwards. Ginger plants will start to emerge in a couple of weeks.

When choosing a pot, prefer a medium sized 14-15 inches pot that is deep rather than shallow to provide the ample space to roots to grow.

In its natural climate, ginger is grown in partial sun, so keep your pot in a spot that receives full sun but shade in afternoon. However, if you live in a really cold climate keep the plant in a sunny spot.

Loose, well drained, and sandy-loamy soil that is rich in compost is best for growing ginger indoors or outdoors in a pot. Soil that blocks the moisture must be avoided.

Your ginger roots are going to get ready for harvest within 8-10 months, once the leaves start to become yellow.

Mandala Roundie Throw Blanket

Let me boast here of my favourite deco item! I’m with it at home and everywhere outdoors: picnics, pilates, beach...It may create a romantic atmosphere at a date or bring warmth in a windy day.

This beach blanket isn’t like any of the other! I was so excited when I saw this! Round shaped, with a mystic pattern on it and so unique! 

For me this is perfect as its truly a great outdoor beach blanket! When laying down even on wet grass or sand you don’t feel the moisture due to the thickness and fabric! Also I feel like it needs to be less weighted down and when the wind blows it doesn’t effect this one as much as the others! This is such bright fun colors!! Its honestly just so different and unique to the others I have seen!  And w.hat is really nice - it can be used even as a deco item at home - with little cute pillows.

The graphics on this blanket are really nice! The blanket is also very very well sewn and I haven’t see any issues where it was miss sewn or that I feel it will become undone anytime soon. This also doesn’t change colors after washing and it’s still just as bright after a couple washings!

I haven’t found anything I am not overly impressed with my roundie beach towel!
