Saw a post about how Nancy would have wanted the flowers/emotional-support in S5 because “she was scared of the Demogorgon in Season 1 and wanted Jonathan there to support her!”
Which. In addition to the different stakes of each situation . . . Do y’all not know how character development works?
Nancy having to wear heels for 78% of Season 4 was DIABOLICAL. Let her feet rest!
I don’t go here, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but I find it pretty ironic that Euphoria started off as a show about a group of primarily teenage girls navigating their emotions and traumas in relation to the patriarchy . . . And seemingly just ended with two guys in their fifties having it out in a revenge-fueled strip club fight.
Jonathan may have lost a lot in season 5 but, hey: at least he didn’t lose his blue jacket.
I’m having another #hatermoment but it is very bizarre how some fr*ity four fans seem to genuinely believe that Nancy has more loyalty to Eddie, a guy she knew for 4 days and who promptly died than to Jonathan, her long term boyfriend who she loves deeply. Like say what ever you want about s4 Steve and Robin, they don’t care about Jonathan, but NANCY????
I do not believe she would shoot someone for “replacing” Eddie with Jonathan…
I’ve been thinking about Season 4 again (much to my chagrin), and the thing that’s always bugged me about Eddie is that he just feels so transparent as a character.
Bob’s role I could understand; he felt naturally embedded into Hawkins and its characters. Alexei was a trope from the start, but I can see the logic of wanting to portray a likable Russian character that won’t stay around for the long-run. It was predictable, but it still made sense.
With Eddie, however, I immediately clocked exactly what the writers were doing and I hated it. A new, prominent high-schooler that’s close to Dustin, makes sarcastic comments, and is misunderstood, poor, and massively into music? The levels of character redundancy are off-the-charts. And when you combine that with a low-effort ‘character arc’ that also feels rinse-and-repeat, the blatancy of it all is practically dripping off the screen.
There is just such a cynical undercurrent to his character and it’s always bothered me. He feels less like a person and more like a crafted group of archetypes, and in a show that always prided itself on honesty and the warmth of humanity, he sticks out like a sore thumb.
S1の二人の雰囲気が大好きです
Somehow I keep forgetting that the Finding Nemo guy directed both Dig Dug and The Spy.
Andrew Stanton, a pillar of Pixar and Jancy Nation. What an icon.
since stranger things is over i want to confess that i never really liked ronance. like okay amazing idea of nancy having a girlfriend, but can she have ONE friend that isn't attracted to her or dead? and i love rockie too much, i'm so upset the duffers forget about them in the finale
I enjoy this little exchange a lot, because you know Argyle’s been like, “Yeah, Jonathan, I trust your girlfriend’s super cool and the love of your life and all, but is she really worth stressing out this much about?”
And then he meets her and he’s like. “Oh. I get it now.”
Dustin and Lucas goofing off after the final battle while Jonathan’s grinning at them is one my favorite moments of the season.
Man the internet really is an exercise in restraint huh.
I love how all the other characters on the Blu-Ray box art look really serious and suitably scared and while Max and Holly are just sort of vibing.
God, I love Nancy. She’s so fierce but she has a shortsighted nature. I love that she’s flawed and hurting and is allowed to feel that pain. I love the scene where she’s fawning over the dog. I love that she’s allowed to falter while simultaneously being one of the most competent in the room. I love her commitment to the bit, her understated sense of humor. And I adore how empathetic she is, no matter how much she may try to shove that down. She’s a lovely character and I know the show’s been over for a while but I MISS HER, DAMN IT!
Also, building off from my last post, it was really funny how many Steve Stans complaining about his ending brought up how “mean” it was that Nancy and Jonathan were “mocking” his dream.
If I was dating someone and my ex-boyfriend, who is under the impression that the relationship is perfectly happy, decided to proclaim he wanted to have six kids with me, I’d have blown a gasket. By all accounts, they both took it shockingly well.
So yeah! I don’t feel bad that saying a guy who can barely manage three kids is worthy of mocking, because if anything? They should have mocked him more!
The thing about S4 St*ncy that’s always bothered me is just how forced it all feels. Would I have liked it even if the execution was better? Probably not, but I could at least be less baffled by it.
But in its current state? It is one of the most shoehorned and inexplicable plot threads I’ve seen in a long time.
I’m supposed to buy Robin and Nancy’s friendship when the former is begging Nancy to get back with her ex? Based on absolutely nothing but assumptions? I’m supposed to be all fine-and-dandy with Eddie turning into the writers’ mouthpiece out of nowhere? I’m supposed to be fine with Jonathan just getting conveniently ignored because Nancy being with him (WHICH IS HER CHOICE, BY THE WAY!) doesn’t matter? For some reason?
It’s just plain uncomfortable to watch. I viscerally don’t understand it and almost all of the shippers’ arguments tend to boil down to wanting Steve to have a girlfriend and “B-B-But Jonathan Is A Dick, though!” Someone throw the six nuggets speech into the fire, I swear to god.
