Well this isn’t a new topic for all of us.. we have come across gender inequality at least once in our lives. Gender inequality is unfair treatment towards a being because of their gender. Example:- Woman get paid less for the same job the man does.
Gender inequality happens all around us, we need to observe it and try to make things right. Each one of us has our own value in our society, and we should stand up for anyone that is being discriminated because of their gender.
Gender inequality has been happening since the early days, where a woman is not allowed to be educated and should only stay at the house and do household chores. These type of stereotypes still happen in our society these days such as:- ‘you don’t need to study anymore just find a rich husband and get married and have kids’ Women deserves to be educated not only men. These type of stereotypes can be found in many cultures and is happening in our daily lives.
In order to prevent gender discrimination, the change needs to happen at the young age. The parents need to be a role model and influence their kids in the right way. We must stop telling things like “don’t cry like a girl” “don’t hit a girl” “Be brave like a man don’t be scared like a girl” “only girls should wear dresses and make up” “only boys should wear t-shirts and pants” to kids. Crying and being scared are just human emotions, we don’t need to give each emotion to each gender and only allow them to feel the emotion they should.
Gender inequality is not just for boys and girls, it includes other types of genders such as transgender, gay, lesbian, bisexual. Our society frowns upon the LGBTQ community because they are not normal. Yes, they are not normal, they are different and unique and they have shown their true selves to the world. This doesn’t mean they are misfits and they don’t belong in our society. Even though the government has given LGBTQ rights, our society doesn’t accept them. If a transgender passes by, we look down and try to avoid contact. Why? because we have not normalized that being anything other than a normal male/female.
Gender inequality is a serious issue which everyone should be aware of. Even if you are aware of it, you must not allow it to happen. We can stop/reduce it by talking to the younger generation about this issue so that it doesn’t happen in the future.
