Anyways, I’m so glad I pushed out this track today. It’s been in production for 3-4 weeks, off and on... mostly off. It’s chill, has some guitar playing of mine, an 808, Juno bass and plenty of my voice.
It’s atmospheric, kind of repetitive, but a good chill.
I’m terrible at describing things, so just go listen to it and maybe you won’t hate it.

This track was some time coming, and it was fun to work on. Glad that it’s out now, as I’ve spent too much time tweaking, but also learning some valuable lessons in mixing and electronic music production.
Big ups to Ableton, Tokyo Dawn Records, Plugin Alliance (Vertigo and Brainoworx) and Softube, for giving me the opportunity to use some seriously good soft-gear. Also thanks to Audioz, audionews, release groups, the scene, and whoever else helped make this possible for broke-ass me. Without the freedom to use what I want, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

I’ve got a new-ish song called “Rick Steves”, it’s cool. I like it anyways.
There’s another one currently called “Playing with Rob”, because of my use of Rob Papen soft-synths.
Big surprise here, I overuse the arpeggiator! Yea! Can’t help myself, it is what it is.
I don’t know why I haven’t released them yet. Maybe my groove of trying too little got me stuck in trying too little. It’s easy not to care when it seems so difficult to connect to other people and get them to care.
Maybe I’m just a childish, selfish jerk. I don’t see that changing any time soon, but those aforementioned songs will be released soon. Just no soon, enough.

SoundCloud direct downloads disabled; linked to Bandcamp instead.
So I decided to disable the option for people to download my tracks directly from SoundCloud’s servers. The reason is that I don’t want most people downloading the WAV file that I upload, since most people don’t want or need tracks in WAV format. I could upload MP3′s, but I’ve found some irreconcilable problems when doing things that way, predominantly a loss in quality that I’m just not okay with even if it’s only noticeable when streaming. I know most people will just stream it, not download, so to me this is an acceptable change even if there is a caveat or two.
Instead what I did is link the download to my Bandcamp account, where in addition to choosing to pay for the song you can download it in many different formats. The default option when downloading my track on Bandcamp is variable-bitrate MP3, which is what most people would want to download. I figure with VBR MP3′s, you get good quality, small file size, and excellent compatibility. There’s also the option to download the WAV, FLAC, AIFF and some other formats I believe.
In addition to giving people more options, this allows me to upload WAV’s to SoundCloud, so that they’ll only go through one stage of compression. Multiple stages of compression, like uploading an MP3 to SC that will then be converted again (for streaming) causes unwanted frequency aberrations (especially in the higher frequencies, 5khz+).
There is one drawback, and that is that you have to go to another site and go through more steps to get the download, but I feel it’s a better representation of my work this way.
The only track I’ve done this for (so far) is “Stuck to My Head”. All other tracks will be changed in the same way.
