Chris Zylka has knocked around the business long enough to be a little philosophical about it. He was Jake in the short-lived TV series The Secret Circle; he went one-on-one against Peter Parker as Flash Thompson in The Amazing Spider-Man; and he's part of the terrific ensemble on HBO's The Leftovers. But in Dixieland, a gritty Southern trailer-park drama from writer/director Hank Bedford, Zylka is the unquestioned star.

Christopher Walken in King of New York, Abel Ferrara, (1990) #ChristopherWalken #AbelFerrara #SuitedForAMan #SuitsInMovies #Classic90sMovies
“King of New York” Christopher Walken plays Frank White, a drug lord released from prison, in Abel Ferrara’s “King of New York”. At the start of the film, he sidles up to his lead henchman Jimmy (Laurence Fishburne), and tells him that he has spent too much time in prison and that he feels no remorse. And what is he talking about? The Colombian drug dealer he has had assassinated. Frank has similar plans for rival Italian and Chinese dealers. His aim is very simple. He wants to dominate New York’s lucrative drug trade, and use the proceeds to fund charitable works such as the public hospital in the South Bronx. But the path to this goal of bought legitimacy is fraught with danger. Frank’s ‘street mouth-piece’ Joey (Paul Calderone) conducts business with the Triads. And a team of violent and unorthodox cops lurks there. They store the corpse of one of Frank’s victims in their squad car. And, on another occasion, they conduct a commando-style raid on Frank’s warehouse killing, rather than arresting, members of his posse. But it’s Christopher Walken’s performance that will amaze you. His Frank White is a credible screen criminal. And that’s very rare.

Today in 1978, Whilst living at the Chelsea Hotel in New York City,Sex Pistol Sid Vicious called the police to say that someone had stabbed his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. He was arrested and charged with murder and placed in the detox unit of a New York prison. Vicious died of a heroin overdose before the case went to trial.#sidvicious #nancyspungen #sidandnancy #chelseahotel #inthenewyorkgroove
Photos I took when I met Peter Beard in 1994 at the launch for one of his books. He was charming.
