a cat rested in vane’s chest, head poking out from his collar as he pet one of it’s ears. a little paw came out when the cat noticed the girl now approaching, taking ahold of one of vane’s fingers. his head tilted up, and a grin came to his face in a moment.

so to make up for the fact that i was helpin my dad most of the day; here’s some hcs !!

- wowie this guys such a dork; he nicknames whatever he can, especially if the name’s too long to remember. lancelot was the first victim, but he was among many other things, food, pets, etc not escaping vane’s nicknaming. porriloveshimnomatterwhathesays,eatingporridgewhilecrying

- i guess this is less of a hc and more of an observation but vane tends to respond to highly emotional situations with anger, unless he’s upset someone else ( namely lancey. ) the first example that makes this clear as day is his sudden burst of desperate violence when he hears of fafnir’s awakening in defender’s oath?? he nearly strangles the guy hdushfid but the thing is unless someone points it out, vane doesn’t realize how violent he can get until it’s too late. i’d imagine if isabella went through with her plan four knights of a fallen land that vane might have used his anger to overpower her and possibly even kill her for torturing lancey ; ; ;

- less heavily, vane’s of course a fan of cooking and cleaning, but he’s also surprisingly organized ! his room ( when he finally returns ) is clean, everything’s organized. his clothes are neatly put away, and any knick knacks he collects are displayed in a way that makes everything look, somehow, even more clean. he does it unconsciously.

- speaking of which, he likes collecting things!! mostly just rocks and little trinkets, but things nonetheless. sometimes he’ll collect them for lancelot to check out later, but it’s primarily for his own pleasure.

- also, due to how knights work, vane and lancelot were likely born into nobility, which means that somewhere, vane’s parents are probably of noble blood and maybe proud of their incredibly dumb son. i might hc that his grandmother from four knights of a fallen land was his main caretaker. mayb.

no, his love would never call him broken, but the feeling of it didn’t diminish. how could vane not look at him and see the shattered remnants of the man he’d fallen for as opposed to a whole person? even despite how lancelot kept himself together during the daylight hours, he could hide nothing from his fiance.

sure, vane could easily be viewed as an idiot, but he’d always been observant; the pair had known each other for all their lives, too, so how could he miss frayed edges and irritability seeping into the usually calm captain?

thoughts slowly dispersed as lancelot was pulled in close, gentle yet calloused hands caressing him. handle with care: he must have seemed so fragile and little like this, squished against vane while being treated as if he could shatter any moment.

somehow, despite everything, he couldn’t suppress a moment of soft laughter over vane’s words. his own reply was unsteady, though, voice finally shaking as much as the rest of him.

✦ –– “ if anything.. i doubt i could bear such burdens without you. ”

vane’s green eyes blinked, staring blank as he watched his fiance, chest moving up and down as his breathing steadied out. lancelot looked so different here in his arms, calm and relaxing more and more every moment spent pressed to vane’s chest. vane’s hand went to pet his hair, running big fingers through soft strands of black hair.

a gentle kiss was laid on lancelot’s forehead eventually, still cradling him in his arms as he did so. more kisses followed, moving quietly down his face, until eventually stopping on lancelot’s own lips. he was still painfully slow and delicate, treating the captain as if he were to shatter with any sudden movement. with how close they were, vane wondered briefly if his fiance could hear how his heart was beating. even after being together, a package deal, so much labels vane couldn’t count, for so long- some things were just too embarrassing.

his mouth then grew into a grin, happy to hear lancelot’s laugh, no matter how nervous the words that followed.

✧ –– “ eheh!! LEAVE IT TO ME, lancey!! I’LL CARRY anything you need!! YOU just TELL ME what you wanna SAY, dude!! i’d do ANYTHING to make you feel better!! ”

✧ –– “ TOOK A WHILE, BUT!! we got here in PRETTY great time, huh, lancey?? looks like we’ve got PLENTY of sun to have the picnic, and do whatever ya’ want for a few hours!! but THAT’S only if we keep up the pace!! ”

grin on his face, joy in every step he took, vane held lancelot’s hand tightly at the base of a mountain, their usual choice for an anniversary picnic. the location was a mix of both’s wishes, quiet, filled with good memories spent together, and away from most of the troubles of the sky. here, they were more free than anywhere else, and here was where they could truly be with each other.

vane’s hand tugged lancelot’s more as he tried to get him to hurry up, his larger stride not helping his far faster pace. if lancey lagged behind too far, vane would have to carry him the rest of the way!
