Hua Cheng's words causes Xie Lian to look up from the basket he was weaving. Something about it tickles his heart and he hears his heart beats in his ears and feels his cheeks heating up. Thankfully, Mu Qing and Feng Xin weren't around, their squabbling never fails to remind him of home but there are times when he tires of hearing them fight over unimportant matters.
Hua Cheng, on the other hand, was a peaceful presence Xie Lian realizes he fails to notice until just now. The way he'd stand there, quietly, patiently, waiting for an indicator or a plea for help to step in. Something Xie Lian quietly and selfishly notes it's something no one has ever done for him.
After a long beat, he shakes his head and presses a hand to his cheek. The urge to bite his fingernails is painfully tempting. "San Lang, is that a trick question, or...?" It's a question long due, he loathes himself for it.

Those charcoal spheres were an insult to life itself, but he was well aware that Sebek was not so easily handled.
