Filipino gurus revokes pact on Nas Academy
Filipino gurus who are long-decade doing their career have suspended working with Nas Academy founder Nuseir Yassin while National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), branch of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), is investigating the flowing controversy that broke the news earlier this month.
Amidst tattoo master Apo Whang-Od and Yassin investigations, 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray who head Cornerstone Entertainment and multi-awarded veteran journalist Jessica Soho have made their decision not to pursue direct coaching online under Nas Academy platform, reports says.
Nas Academy was made as paid online school for global students in order to learn directly the ideal proficiency of formerly involved Catriona, Jessica and Whang-Od despite other influential frontrunners of organizations connected to the platform.
The retracting academy, which also curved down its followers on social media, has released a statement that they “thought everybody would become teacher.” Their avowal made an irresistible thread engaging millions of people in the country flanking the divided supporters between the parties.
The content dispute flows when Whan-Od’s granddaughter Grace Palicas posted on Facebook that vlogger Yassin – also known for his Nas Daily – is exploiting their culture as an indigenous people of the country. Afterward, another post from The Cacao Project Louise Mabulo who exposed the ‘lies’ from what was done 2 years ago with content creators Yassin and Agon Hare also known for his Project Nightfall.
A video that Yassin was posted on social media, in response to the ‘scam’ allegations of Palicas, appears Whang-Od is affixing her thumbprint on the contract of agreement he claimed.
In a report, the NCIP said that it was made aware of the issue and is currently looking into it. “Looking into the situation, this is another instance where the community intellectual rights of our Indigenous Peoples are subjected to exploitation.”
The report added NCIP Cordillera Administrative Region Director Marlon P. Bosantong who stressed that presenting a video on social media is unrecognizable as a proof of compliance. Bosantong reiterated Section 32 of the Republic Act No. 8371 otherwise known as the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997 under the provision of Community Intellectual Rights.
Yassin has earlier overpassed the prior consent to protocols in submitting evidence for the NCIP investigation to contrast if he violated Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs). NCIP says in the report, “while Apo Whang-Od may have signed the contract, there is no proof.”
Nas Academy then says on their statement, “We are committed to working with the NCIP (National Commission on Indigenous People) to ensure that all proper processes are followed. Meanwhile, we will be pausing our operations in the Philippines to focus on strengthening our processes around how we collaborate with our partners.”
The statement then added, “We will come back more energized and ready to help more inspiring people become teachers in the Philippines.” It continued, “Because Education changes lives.”
