Calliope was very content with her life on Mount Olympus, spending her days with her sisters, spinning tales and singing songs of the gods, goddesses and heroes of Greece. Calliope, being the Muse of Epic Poetry, loved the tales of heroes most of all, how they conquered adversity, even if that sometimes meant overcoming the wrath of her fellow gods and goddesses. What mattered to her was that their hearts were true and that what they accomplished, they accomplished for what she believed was the greater good.
She did love the company of all the gods and goddesses, for they were living breathing great stories. Zeus, for all the bad people often saw in him, Calliope saw Zeus as a hero, freeing the gods to rule over Olympus. Though, as great as the stories of the gods were, Calliope loved to wander through the mortals, finding their own heroes and epic tales to tell so that everyone could know of them. Calliope hated to think of a hero living in obscurity. She would spend hours upon hours among the mortals, singing her ballads, reciting her tales of gods, monsters, mortals, and everything in between.
When war struck, Calliope knew this would be the stuff of legends, even in the final moments when she could feel her physical form being destroyed. This was an obstacle in their story, but this was not the end. She knew they would be able to rise again, and sheâd be ready to tell the tale when the time came.
Returning to Athens filled the muse with complete and utter glee. She quickly found herself working in Apolloâs Emporium, where she was free to listen to all the wild and wonderful forms of music and to chat with all the interesting characters that found themselves wondering in to the shop. She was determined every day to find a new story to tell, and to tell it to anyone who would listen, going into all sorts of dramatics when given the opportunity.
While she is happy to be back, and fascinated by the world around her, she can feel something brewing. Though it worries others, Calliope is excited. She is sure good will triumph over evil and that the gods and goddess will continue their just rule over Athens.
APOLLO LILLIS: Both her boss and a trusted friend, Calliope has an enthusiasm for her craft that Apollo values very highly. She has nothing but utter dedication to her job, and often finds herself feeding the rather large ego that Apollo has with her tales of his own greatness.
THALIA RHODES: A fellow muse and a close friend, nobody has the ability to make Calliope laugh like Thalia does. Of all the other muses, Calliope is probably closest to Thalia.
TERPSICHORE KAZAN: The Muse of Dance is another creative mind, and one who collaborates very well with Calliope. Music and dance make a wonderful pairing, and Terpsichore is a frequent visitor to the Emporium.
