Todoroki was a little disappointed when Midoriya pulled away and left, but since he was going to get another drink he could shrug it off and watch as he mixed something else for each of them. He really shouldn’t have been drinking. None of them should, since so many there were pro heroes or sidekicks, but it didn’t seem to matter as there was a thick atmosphere of celebration. Even if something were to happen, no one seemed too worried. It wasn’t like they were the only heroes in the area, either, and he could probably count on many people being safe in their homes with their families and friends on a night like this.
He didn’t have to think about the people being safe. It was his first real night off in a while, so he may as well make the most of it.
Chuckling softly, he accepted the second cup from Midoriya as well. “You might say that,” he nodded, taking a sip; this drink felt a little stronger than the last, but it went down easier. Probably a good point to stop, then. He didn’t want to get too sloppy. “If there’s something there, anyway. If you end up kissing a stranger and never seeing them again, where’s the fun in that?”
There really was no point in having his tie done or his jacket buttoned up anymore. Todoroki felt more relaxed now and dressing down would lessen his self-consciousness. Just as he set aside his drink, though, Midoriya led him back out of the kitchen toward the living room, where the music blared loud in his ears and they were surrounded by so many people. He had to focus on where Midoriya was taking him, just on the link of their hands and nothing else.
“Yeah,” he answered without really thinking about it. “I’m not great at dancing, but I’ve heard it’s like fighting. Just less risk of injury.” He didn’t let go of Midoriya’s hand, though, just in case. If they were dancing together, they would look like fools together, witnesses be damned. As long as there was a good beat to go with the song, how hard could it be to just move with it?
“And without quirks!” he chimed in.
Grinning from ear to ear, Midoriya led the way through a blur of dancing bodies. His tight hold on Todoroki’s hand assured that they weren’t separated as they weaseled their way into the crowd. It felt nice to hold hands, but he couldn’t decide if it was just because how warm Todoroki’s hand was, or because he was holding Todoroki’s hand.
“I like holding hands with you,” Midoriya blurted out. It seemed like the only logical thing to say, and he was being brutally honest with himself. “I’m glad you answered your phone. This is way more fun with you here.” With that same cheesy grin plastered between his drunk, flushed cheeks, Midoriya started to dance. // @bokuno-zuko
