May Carnival of Aces - Kissing, Handholding and Bedsharing.

It took me a really long time to figure out I was ace because physical intimacy and touch are a really important part of who I am.

I really like being physically close with my partner.  I especially enjoy casual intimacy, I like being curled up with my partner while we read or play video games or just hang out and talk.  I also really, really like sharing a bed with a partner.  It’s cuddles AND naps.  It’s basically the best.

I like sharing a bed with a partner as well because I especially enjoy skin contact.  I like hugging when we are both topless, and I like the kind of cuddling where your legs and arms are all entwined and you are just a happy mass of critter.

And this is where the level of physical things I want and crave and value stops. 

I do enjoy doing more physical stuff.  It’s nice to give and receive other intense sensations with my partner, and I love hearing them make pretty noises.  I’m especially lucky right now to be dating a super cute ace boy, so all our play is entirely sensual and I don’t need to worry about what point it’s supposed to cross over into being something sexual.  Even with allo partners I was willing to be sexual, bc fun, bc an extension of touching etc, but it was always something I was doing for them and never for me. Learning the difference between things I like for me and things I like for my partners has been really useful, and I feel a lot more confident in owning my own desires and lack thereof because of it.

I’m tricking my students into writing a research paper by having them write an open letter and then strengthen their argument by adding evidence. They were allowed to write about anything they wanted for the first draft of their open letter, and one of my 10th grade boys decided he wanted to write about girls who only like bands because the members are cute and don’t really care about the music.

I let him do it because I’ve found that shutting down a student’s idea at the first draft stage tends to make them more obstinate about the topic. I figured we’d get to the evidence-gathering stage, he wouldn’t be able to find scholarly sources and he would change his topic.

Well lo and behold, today he comes into class and tells me he’s changing his topic. Apparently, he couldn’t find any evidence and he figured he was being kind of hypocritical because he gets really excited about athletes he doesn’t even know and the only reason that’s different than fangirls is because it’s him. He actually told me that he realized that writing that first letter would be pretty condescending. He’s going to write about LGBT rights instead.

This next generation, y’all. There’s some good stuff happening.

So in my 3D class there’s another kid named Roy, which is my name.

Also in 3D class, we aren’t allowed to listen to music.

So I was talking to our professor and Roy walked by with earbuds in and the professor said “Roy, take those things out of your ears” and I took my hearing aids out of my ears and said “sorry”.

That is the greatest joke I have ever told and no one laughed and I honestly feel so under appreciated rn.

Honestly that joke made being deaf completely worth it and I am an unappreciated comedic genius of my time.
