Molly winced at the mention of the fight. “It could’ve gone better,” she admitted, “But it’s whatever. I’m okay, mostly.”
“Well as long as there are no broken bones or need for stitches I’d say it went well,” Delilah teased gently.

Anthony’s frown deepened. “You’re kidding me. We’ve got someone stealing from the hospital now?” He sighed. As much as he could understand why people were desperate, the idea of stealing supplies from a hospital and the people who needed them most baffled him. “Well, if he gives you anymore trouble, you come to me. I’ll tell him to get off your back.”
“It’s always something, right?” She tried to joke but the frown was etched into her skin. Delilah knew grabbing things from the hospital was a bad idea but she had to help people that weren’t allowed treatment. That’s just who she was. “I appreciate it Anthony, but I can take care of myself. Have for a while now.”
Same Old, Same Old | Delilah + Joel
joel-monroe:
Joel looked up as she touched his arm, very nearly slicing off another chunk of his hand with the knife he was using. He didn’t notice though, too busy questioning why she was trying to be nice to him.
“Cooking is pretty much my go-to move for making friends.” He laughed, shaking his head. “I don’t think I’m so much bad as much as I am just not good. I always kinda thought I was good until recently, but… times like these kind of make you think differently I guess.”
“Well, from what I have seen of you Joel,” Delilah shook her head with a gentle smile,”you’re funny, you’re sweet, you’re handsome, and you’re willing to protect those you care about. It may not seem like much but it’s more than some people have. Doing bad things doesn’t always make you a bad person. I have a lot of blood on my hands but I at least like to pretend I’m...good.”
Flaws | Ethan + Delilah
ethan-dalton:
Ethan laid the body in the grass, grabbing the second shovel to help. It was getting dark so he’d left the keys in the ignition of the truck, leaving the headlights on so they would have light to work by. He looked up at her as he shoveled dirt into a pile on the side, hesitating a moment before speaking.
“Do you want to talk about any of this? Or anything at all?” He asked bluntly, deciding to just ask rather than try and feel her out on how she felt.
Delilah remained silent for a few minutes as they dug, not sure what to even say to him at that moment. How does one really explain the kind of hopelessness she was feeling? She glanced up at before returning to her digging. “I never got the chance to bury my parents,” she finally broke the silence.
She couldn’t will herself to look at him when she spoke, worried about the look of pity he might give her. She just kept digging, focusing on the easy task as she spoke the not so easy words. “When the outbreak first happened it got my dad, I didn’t even get home in time to warn my mom. He was...eating her when I got to the house. I just put a knife through both their brains and left.”
Flaws | Ethan + Delilah
ethan-dalton:
Ethan laid the body in the back of the truck where there was already a couple of shovels. He walked around to the driver’s side then and got inside the cab. He waited for Delilah to get in before starting the truck and pulling onto the road. It was always a little strange driving these days, there was never any traffic and you had to drive around pedestrians and debris that was left in the road. He drove away from town and into the country towards the farms, biting back a yawn as he pulled over into a small field and parked the truck.
“There’s a small plot by the treeline.” He explained as he got out and walked around to the back. He picked up the body and nodded towards the shovels that were thrown in the bed.
“Mind bringing those?” He asked.
The drive was a quiet one, Delilah trying not to think about the past few weeks. As they finally got to the small field, she climbed out of the truck and circled around to the bed. She nodded to his question, grabbing the shovels and following him to the tree line. As he set down the small body, she started digging the shallow grave.
msmollyarbor:
“It’s okay,” Molly spoke at the person she had ran into when she wasn’t paying attention, recognizing them as Delilah. “Is this guy giving you trouble?”
“It’s fine, he was just leaving,” she spoke looking over her shoulder as the man stalked away. “You doing okay? How’d the fight go?”
grimaldianthony:
Anthony glared at the man’s retreating back. “What an asshole.” He looked back at Delilah. From what he knew of her, she didn’t seem like the type to steal from anyone. “He wasn’t one of the mayor’s guys, was he?”
“No, just a nurse. Apparently the counts were off and since I was the one of count duty because of being injured he assumes it must be me,” she shook her head. Delilah had been careful about not taking supplies from the hospital unless she absolutely needed to.
grimaldianthony:
Anthony took a step back, looking at Delilah with concern. “Are you alright?” He glanced over her shoulder at the man she’d been talking to. “Is this guy giving you trouble?”
“No, it’s fine,” she sighed brushing her fingers through her hair as she looked over her shoulder at the doctor who was now walking away. “He just decided it was a good idea to accusing me of stealing supplies.”
“Are you accusing me of something? Because it sounds like you are and I don’t know why you would think that’s a good idea. Leave me alone.” She told the man before turning around and nearly running into someone else. “Sorry.”
Flaws | Ethan + Delilah
ethan-dalton:
Ethan followed her to where the body was, not hesitating for a moment before going to pick it up. The body was small and light but there was a dead weight to it that made it impossible to forget what was wrapped inside the sheet. He didn’t give himself time to think about it, forcing his tired mind to focus on Delilah’s words and what this all meant to her. Focusing on someone else’s distress was easier, more comfortable. “That’s not an easy thing to deal with.” He spoke as he began walking back towards the stairs, the covered body stiff in his arms. He glanced over at Delilah, understanding why this was important to her when he’d so recently had to do the same for a friend. “You did everything you could, though. It must be hard seeing people come and go from here.”
“It’s worse when you know there is nothing you can do, I was trained to help save lives but no all the training seems...irrelevant,” she sighed softly, leading him back out to his truck from the side door. It was better if no one else saw them, they were already risking a bit to much to bury a body.
Same Old, Same Old | Delilah + Joel
joel-monroe:
Joel glanced up as she sat across the bar from him, mirroring her grin. He did have some pretty ridiculous stories about working at the small town diner, though he doubted they could be more entertaining than the things she’d seen working in the medical field.
His smile faltered a little as she asked about his nephew and how he’d come to be responsible for him. He didn’t really want to go into the painful details of why Matt’s mom had sent him to live with him, especially since that shit was kind of personal and Joel didn’t feel right telling anyone when it was really Matthew’s business.
“I probably could come up with some deep meanings if I was stoned.” He laughed, looking down again as he picked up a kitchen knife. “I uh, hm… Well, as pathetic as this is- I’m worried that anything I could tell you about myself will only make you think less of me.” He didn’t realize that even saying that was probably the most honest and personal thing he had said about himself to her.
Delilah frowned slightly, standing up and making her way into the kitchen. The idea that he was worried about what she thought of him startled her a bit. She approached him slowly, placing a hand on his arm. She never gave much though to the affect she might have on people. “I hardly think you can tell me anything that will make you look bad, I’m a doctor, I’ve seen pretty horrible things but I always try to look on the bright side. Besides, I’m in a very gracious mood right now. I mean you’re making me food.”
msmollyarbor:
“Thanks. I didn’t know you were a doctor. And yeah, your secret is safe with me, so long as you keep the whole I-got-beat-up-in-a-fight-club thing a secret too.”
“I’m good at keeping secrets.”
lily–oshea:
“The structure of this town is collapsing is what is happening. Without steady laws and junk, it was bound to happen.”
“This town has laws just not the good kind.”
Same Old, Same Old | Delilah + Joel
A grin crept across Joel’s face as she expressed confidence in his ability to be interesting. Joel definitely projected an air of being useless, having embraced the lazy stoner vibe for over thirteen years now. Setting low expectations meant he never really felt like a failure to anyone so it was an easy out. Still, despite setting himself up for negative responses he was always a sucker for when someone gave him positive attention.
“I’ve lived here my entire life. You’ve seen this place. Before people started rising from the dead it’s pretty boring. My best stories are just gonna be like kitchen disasters at work.”
“Well I will gladly listen to any of your cooking disasters,” she grinned, pulling up a bar stool and sitting across from him at the bar as he cook. Delilah watched him as he working on creating something edible for her. “Or how about Matty? How’d you end up with him? Or what’s your favorite color? I’m not asking for some deep meaning but there has to be more to you than the stoner persona.”
Flaws | Ethan + Delilah
“I know a place. It’s nice. Quiet.” Ethan assured her, nodding for her to come with him as headed towards the stairs that would lead them to the morgue. He needed her to show him where she had put the body, too tired to bother about how morbid the situation was.
“Did you know her?” He asked, looking over at her as they walked down to the morgue.
Delilah nodded slightly as they went into the morgue, pushing open the heavy door and leading him towards a body covered with a white sheet. She had wrapped up the girl hours ago, not liking the idea of her getting burned with the rest. She sighed softly as his question, wrapping her arms around herself. “She came in a few weeks ago with a sprained wrist, they wouldn’t allow her medical attention so I sort of broke the rules and took care of it myself. She had just turned eight and the next time I see her she is missing a chunk of her arm and I have to put a scalpel through her brain,” she spoke through gritted teeth.
Short Change Hero || Ren & Delilah
Ren hesitated, trying to think of who Alex would be holding such a severe grudge against. He shook his head, folding his arms across his chest with a bothered frown.
“She isn’t really talking to me right now. She’s mad at me.” He sighed, feeling helpless.
“Well then you two better sort your shit out soon, I’m not sure she is exactly in the right state of mind and I’m worried about her,” Delilah sighed softly, brushing her fingers through her hair. “I can try to keep an eye on her but she hasn’t been around recently and there isn’t much I can do if I can’t find her. Taking a life can change a person, especially a young girl.”
“Amen sister. But if that’s what people want to do then I doubt their going to listen.”
“I just can’t believe we had so many people die a few weeks ago and now people are fighting for supplies quite literally.”
