BACKGROUND / BIO
Delilah was born to Michael and Penelope Wilmot on the 7th July 1984, she came out screaming and her parents regularly tell the story of their little girl who has barely been quiet since the day she was born. She was a performer from the get go, putting on shows and performances for her family every weekend, she wasn’t necessarily good at it, but she loved it and her parents were a great audience every time. They always figured she’d be a star someday, in one way or another.
That didn’t stop as Delilah started school., she still craved attention, and demanded the limelight. She joined all the school shows, happy even if she was in the background as a dancing spoon as long as she was on the stage. Her grades weren’t the best but they were okay and her parents weren’t the pushy type, they could see that her passion lay elsewhere.
When she was seven Delilah was diagnosed with meningitis, she spent weeks in the hospital as a result. The infection spread to both Delilah’s ears and her left leg, leaving her with hearing loss and muscle weakness. The Delilah that emerged from the hospital was almost a completely different child than the one that went in, she was quiet and thoughtful, more in her head than out of it. She had to go through months of physical therapy in order to walk confidently again and sessions with the hearing team to fit and get used to wearing hearing aids in both ears. Her grandmother noticed the girl’s personality shy away so she worked hard to spend extra time with her grand-daughter.
Delilah’s grandmother taught her how to bake, it was an activity that didn’t require any talking and barely any movement, they moved in sync, passing ingredients and taking turns to stir. It unlocked something in Delilah and she fell in love with the craft, it was the thing that brought her back to herself. She spent hours in that kitchen with her grandmother over the next few months and slowly but surely she came back out of her shell, dealing with the new normal.
Over the next few years baking became the constant, it was the thing she did when she needed to find herself again. She got herself back into acting and took many of the lead roles as she made her way through High School. She also became a party girl, spending many nights at a house party, drinking herself into ridiculous situations. After High School she had to decide what to do next, college wasn’t really an option but she pretended it was, academia had never really been her thing.
With her parent’s support she headed off to LA for pilot season, ready to take her hobby and make it real, but of course nothing is ever that easy. She tried and tried but soon returned four years later penniless and a Wikipedia page that consisted of a few background roles and many failed pilots. She moved back home with her tail between her legs and no idea what to do next. She was 22 with a failed career, who could overcome that.
She didn’t know how to fill her time so she returned to baking, remember how it had pulled her out of her funk many times before. She began selling to neighbours and then her client list grew and grew until she needed somewhere more than her parent’s kitchen. With her parent’s help she bought a small shop and opened flour co, a little bakery which was just what the small town needed. It wasn’t a planned career but she fell in love with it, she was able to talk to people everyday and provide them with what they needed as well as remembering her grandmother with every dough and treat.
In 2016 Delilah met the one woman who made her reconsider her plan to be a spinster. Delilah had always dated quite a bit but she’d never been one to really settle down, to commit herself to someone. They moved quickly, proving that whole ‘u-haul’ theory to be rather true. Two years later they were married and living in honeymoon bliss. Unfortunately that kind of love doesn’t last forever and a mere two years after the wedding the two parted ways.
Heartbroken Delilah just threw herself back into her work, improving the store and focusing on the business. Delilah still dates but she’s even more closed off than before, focusing on one night stands or friends with benefits. She sometimes still wonders what her life would’ve been like if LA had worked out or her marriage had survived, but she also knows that this was what she was supposed to do, who she was supposed to be.
