I always wanted an older brother. Why? I thought it would be nice to feel protected and safe. What was that thought? It was a product of sexism and growing up in a world where being born a girl is automatically a disadvantage and is synonymous to being weak. My grandparents were super unhappy the day I was born. Why? Because I was born a girl. And you tell me sexism isn’t a real thing. At 13 I came back to my old city and met my best friend after a whole long year. We went to the beach because it was our favourite place in the world but that day she left crying. Because 3 men had started eve teasing us. I don’t know if it was because she was wearing a hijab or because we were girls or because they simply could. When I was trying to help my younger cousin figure out what college and courses to pick my aunt instead of thanking me for helping her son went like, ‘this is so important for him. What’s it to you? You are a girl after all. You will soon be married to a boy who will support you. But he needs to grow up and support an entire family.’ I love her and I know she didn’t mean it in a bad way. It was so normal for her. That’s what made me mad. When a man almost a decade older to me committed a crime by indulging with me, he threatened me instead of apologising because after all, ‘You are a girl. Imagine what will happen if people will find out. You will bring shame to yourself and your family’ I wanted to jump off that night because how could I have ever loved a man who had such a disgusting mentality? I tied a sacred thread (Rakhi) every year to a cousin because it was tradition and it signified thay he would protect me. The one time I needed protection, he provided the attacking side more ammunition. And next year I was told to shut my mouth, smile coyly and tie another Rakhi. The other day at a family gathering when I went to eat food at the table, my mom’s aunt passed me a spoon. I thought, ‘oh how sweet, I didn’t even ask’ But then she said, ‘Here put some food for your uncles and grandfather’ It was such a tiny thing but I was taken aback. After serving 7 plates and not hearing one ‘thank you’ I didn’t feel hungry for food any longer. My friend has to do a masters degree only because it’s a way of delaying her arranged marriage. Don’t tell me this is an Indian thing, sexism is burning all countries equally. When I recently had a conversation with my ex, I soon realised why we aren’t together anymore. But I also realised why I dated him in the first place. He was a feminist and he was not abusive. When I shared this with him, he only said, 'You got to have higher standards than that, Nikki’ See, I know this is not an all men thing. But that’s not the issue. Why are we always deviating? I don’t know what brought on this post, nothing in particular happened today. Or maybe 100 such things happen every single day that they no more seem unusual. But they are still bloody unfair. Was it that man on the internet who told me to stop being such a 'ball buster’ or the professor who told me to stop wearing lipstick to provoke my classmates. Or was it me? Who stopped myself from doing 10 things daily because I was afraid for my own safety

When i finally got out of bed this morning i shuffled my way to the porch with copy of William Blake’s poems in my hand. I opened the book to a piece called “The Little Black Boy”. When I read it I started to think about my childhood growing up in the South.
My life and my feelings are so different from what Blake wrote in his poetry, and this painting and poem came as something of a response to his words.
Son-Flower
I was born wild and free,
I am black, and my soul captures light.
I was born in grandma’s garden. She tended to me every morning and kissed my leaves.
When i bloomed plucked me and held me in her lap. Pointing at the Eastern sky, she spoke,
“Look up at the sun. Don’t you feel the light and heat of her warmth? You are her morning glow.
We are so small and our black bodies are signs that the sun loved us.
Sing the sun’s praises: love and care. Beam with love my child. You are a son. You are my son flower”
She hugged her little black boy and ran her fingers over my pedals. Before she left she kissed me with her light.
And then left me in her garden.

honestly y'all need to understand that “the makeup industry preys on the insecurities our capitalist patriarchal pig society has instilled in women, exploits young girls, and any uwu everybody is beautiful uwu activism they do is performative and for profit” are not opinions.
they’re facts. they’re not up for debate. I don’t care if “FUCK YOU I feel POWERFUL in my MAC ruby woo 15£ lipstick!!!!” because that doesn’t alter the facts above, and I don’t care about your opinion when you’re missing the point and reinforcing uwu weaponised femininity good, despite the fact that is actively harms women lol.
ok so uhhh. A lot of questions here. Are you suggesting there would there be no makeup in a communist country or something? Or that it somehow magically would be cheap as shit despite the materials it takes to create certain makeups? Are you suggesting that in a communist country everything would be all butterflies and no one would be insecure?
Tbh i don’t think makeup is hurting anybody. It’s expensive to buy something quality, yeah. But nothing forces anybody to buy it, it’s a luxury. Makeup is more of a hobby for most women then anything else. Some women are insecure but that’s a product of socialization rather than economics.
If you’re trying to get me to subscribe to a economic system that has no room for the luxuries that I get to enjoy from a free market, you can count me out.
Oh. Oh wow. Everything you said is wrong
MAYBE IF WE JUST STOPPED SEXUALIZING AND STIGMATIZING EVERYTHING A WOMAN DOES, THIS WOULDN’T BE A CONVERSATION. The only problem with ANYONE wearing makeup, is when ANYONE ELSE makes them feel bad for it or tries to convince them that they only are doing it for other people or the benefit of, for this example, getting a job. I’ll walk my ass straight in to that interview, not wearing makeup and fucking slay and get that job because I’m a boss ass bitch who knows her worth with, or without, make up. And anyone telling me that I look tired without it or that I should smile more should probably just stick their head up their butt like the headass they are.
TLDR;
A woman’s capabilities are not defined by whether or not she wears makeup, likes to wear steel toe boots, 6-inch stilettos or wears fucking sweatpants to go grocery shopping. WE DON’T NEED YOU TO TELL US WE LOOK FLY.
You really missed the point here. It doesn’t matter how boss you feel sans makeup: the capitalist system (interviewers fall under that) will see you as less than regardless of how you feel.
the problem is not makeup. the problem is the inseperable entwined misogyny and hateful capitalist marketing of it.
Exactly, the patriarchy.

why do white people share/repost either screen caps of tweets or pictures that are captioned with things that they clearly would never say irl? because people of color and those white allies that actively respect people of color by not appropriating culture and using terms that are derogatory at best, would tell them that they’re being racist.

I have a really great feeling about this
Well I totally didn’t follow through...
But there’s always tomorrow.
An impromptu prompt for today:
Yesterday you were upset with your partner over something minor, you overreact and now they’re upset and y’all haven’t talked the whole day. You realize that it was foolish of you to get upset to begin with and want nothing more than to take it back. Your partner is stubborn and doesn’t want to hear what you have to say, what are you doing about it?
#currently @ 1:46 am EST sitting on the pot anxiety-pooping after being a bitch for a whole day for no reason and thinking to myself that I need to stop being so reactive and think about how other people feel. Not everything is about me and I know that, but it’s easy for me to assume that I’m to blame.
I have this book of 300 writing prompts and today I’m challenging myself to a prompt a day.
Wish me luck!
Mostly because I’m terrible at keeping focus on goals and I usually never complete them 😔
