Delphine was mentally planning out the entirety of her christmas decorations, as she always did. Everything had to be perfect, it had to look exactly like the houses she saw in christmas magazines and cards when she was a child. It was even more important this year, it was her first christmas with Claire, and she wanted to make it special. She was so deep in her very important planning that she jumped a little when arms made their way around her waist and held her. It took her less than a second to figure out who it was and she turned herself around, smiling at the younger girl.

"Do you make a habit of listening to my conversations?" She teased, running a hand through her hair before wrapping it around Claire's back, holding her close. "I was planning to make a start on the decorations soon. It takes me quite a long time...and I was wondering what type of tree would suit this place best." She had also mentioned to her colleague that she had just moved in with somebody and she wanted it all to be flawless, but she was hoping Claire hadn't listened in for that long.

As the French woman was crossing the room to get to her, the student stiffened slightly. The way she walked…the way she talked…it was all so inviting. The inner turmoil Claire was facing was almost painful, as she wanted to trust and believe this teacher meant well- but a part of her couldn’t let go of what so many people in her life had done to her once she opened up. Betrayal, neglect, none of it was new to her. Feeling the hand rest on her limb, the brunette let our a sigh, gulping slightly. Desperately trying to deny the tingling sensation on her skin where Delphine’s hand lay. Listening to the word of concern, she could practically feel the truth leaking out of the other’s words. But she couldn’t let go. Releasing a shaking breath, Claire was about to respond- and as this damn teacher had been for awhile, she was met with a surprise. ‘…I do not care for the others as much as I do for you…’ Those few words resonated with Claire for a moment, and she couldn’t tell if her heart was trying to sink into her stomach, or it was launching into her throat. ❝…I…❞ She didn’t know how to respond. Staring Delphine in those big brown eyes, she sighed once more. ❝ My mom. She’s not working. She and I don’t always see eye to eye, y’know? I um…I have to like- provide or whatever. We get that fucking cheque from the government, but when she isn’t sitting in one spot for days at a time she spends it on other shit. So I don’t have a computer. And I don’t have time to go a damn library or here or whatever. My mom has no idea what I do, Ms. Cormier. No one does- and I kinda wanna keep it that way. This is my life and whatever- I just wanna get the fuck outta here. ❞

By this point, any part of Delphine that was only pretending to be concerned for the sake of her job with the DYAD was completely irrelevant. She had been absolutely fascinated by the younger girl, and now she just couldn't seem to tear herself away from her subject. She should not be doing this, and she certainly shouldn't be this close, and her thumb definitely should not be lightly stroking back and forth on Claire's arm while the blonde woman listened.

Her gaze flitted away from the girl for a second, nodding slightly while she spoke, taking it all in, wondering about how to filter the information she gave back to Aldous. "Delphine." She said simply, looking back up and meeting the brunette's eyes again. "Call me Delphine when we are not in class. This is...strictly unprofessional but I want you to know that...not as a teacher...I am here for you. I have noticed that you have been struggling and if there is any way that I can help that is not education related then I would like you to tell me and I will do my best."

"I can...probably keep your assessments based in the classroom, which would leave you no work to do at home. Does that sound better?" The French woman instinctively chewed her lip as she asked, which she often did when seeking approval from another, though she had never done it with one of her students before.

'look at me' carries a weight that she’s not yet strong enough to carry because she’s bits and pieces and putting herself back together. A net of worry drapes over her wrinkled brow, shades her taut and cautious at the ledge. She can’t and don’t want to deal with this right now. But it seems nothing’s stopping Delphine now. So she stays immobile, like a ragged doll sit in her chair, honeyed hues falling on those two beautiful hombre orbs that’s staring back at her. Cosima finds comfort in the cradle of the chair cushions while Delphine seeks out images of her and Leekie that the petite woman hadn’t really been ready to imagine. Upon feeling cold fidgets resting against her hand, she unfurls, her arms sloping across the back of the chair, her legs long and sprawled. Even her breath spreads out in a sigh as she folds into a corner. Pushed back to try and avoid physical contact with Delphine, altogether. ” wanted his permission,” she scoffs, indignant.”Who is he, your father?” a pinch of her sarcasm is thrown in the air, brows creasing upon her forehead line. "I’m done playing guessing games with you, Delphine." her confession is out in the open and airing. there’s an uncomfortable fullness in her chest, too busy, bustling… her expression is a hard mask; hurt and confused. Every inch of Cosima has come to life: her sticky skin prickles to goose flesh, tamps back down to temper the heat churning from her heart. All the air in the room seems to live on her tongue to suck up her words."I need you to tell me everything about yourself. Who you really are…. every little details. ‘Cause if you lie to me again we’re done for.”

She sits, uncomfortably and stiffly, on the arm of the chair. "Cosima, I am telling you everything now. You know this." The blonde woman sighed deeply, her eyes dragging themselves away from Cosima, seeing as she was going to keep up this charade and abstain from letting Delphine comfort her, which was the most frustrating thing. Delphine was so used to just...touching Cosima, just a small brush of the hand, pressing her nose up against the clone's even just a light stroke of her arm, but after her attempt to reach out was rejected, the blonde woman thought best not to try again.

"You know who I am. I...this is me. I studied immunology and was recruited into the DYAD, where I was told I would be working on an ongoing experiment, responsible for reporting on the wellbeing of the subjects involved. I did not know that it was...anything like this. I was only doing as I was told and I...became fascinated with the way Aldous saw things, but then I realised that...he is not the only one with that point of view. You. Cosima...you fascinate me more than him you are...everything. I have given up so much to be here with you and I would never give up any of it."

The French woman extended her arm again, holding her hand in front of Cosima, inviting her to take it. "I will tell you everything, Cosima. Anything you want to know. I am only here for you now, my loyalty is with you and your family. Nobody else."

Staring- watching the French woman and teacher’s every move, Claire couldn’t tear her eyes away. As much as she did not want to admit it, there was something oddly captivating about her… Something dangerous- but at the same time, there was a sense of peace and safety she could feel simply from being in the same room as her. It was a problem, and Claire wanted it to stop. She barely trusted anyone her own age, let alone should she be trusting a teacher. With a shrug, her gaze finally broke, honey hues cast downward at the desk. ❝ It’s… It’s whatever Ms. Cormier. This shit isn’t something that like concerns you. I’ll figure it out. ❞ Claire was finding a lump in her throat. Normally she would tell the authority figure to eat shit and leave her be- she would get it done soon. But with this one? She wanted help- she wanted to solve things and get her life sorted… All of it was so different, and she wanted to know why it was happening. ❝ Why are you being so nice to me? You haven’t been like this with any of the other students… ❞

Delphine pushed herself back up, crossing the room to Claire's desk and crouching in front of it, so that she could make eye contact with the girl. "On the contrary, Claire. If it affects your schoolwork, which it does, then it is officially my job to make sure that you are okay." She reached her hand out, resting it on the younger girl's arm, offering her a supportive smile. Despite the fact that she was only in this position because the DYAD and her superiors had put her here, she was finding that teaching was something she wasn't all that bad at, and she was finding it surprisingly easily to not only establish a bond with her subject, but to care about her more than just a monitor would. "Because I do not care for the others as much as I do for you." She confessed, her gaze dropping to the floor. "It is probably unprofessional of me, but you can talk to me about anything...I want to help."

Cosima didn’t get this upset with her state of being all that often. Though there were times when things got overwhelming and she needed someone to lean on. And she had people that she trusted here. However it seems like the only person she truly wanted to lean on right now, was the one she wanted to get away from. It didn’t help her case, at all. Besides, when it came down to it, Cosima was still bothered about being a lab rat in someone else’s experiment. She hated the fact her life seemed to be a lie including Delphine. Hell, she didn’t even own herself. So how could that not upset her? And she didn’t exactly like the fact that everyone around her were constantly imposing things on her, or hiding vital information, assuming things for her, lying to her. Cosima could’ve went out to drink a glass of wine at a bar downtown, and she probably would at some point, but right now she was more concerned with calming down and trying to find some balance again. What else did Delphine not tell her about her ‘relationship’ with Leekie? is she still withholding secrets from her? Who is the real Delphine Cormier? is she really who she claims to be? Sitting crossed legs on her persian chair, a hum passes her lips, buzzes to jar the clamp of her teeth. Cosima tips up, mouth still pressed, her pen drums, erratic, flicking fast like a pulse against the cap of her knee. it slaps once, twice. and then, as if remembering to breathe, she picks it up and avoided Delphine’s gaze altogether, followed by a murmur of empty threats under a breath.” get out.”

She paused, she should have expected nothing less from Cosima, any time they had any kind of argument, the French woman just found herself shut out and kicked out of whatever room they were in. Not this time. No, they were going to face this, and Delphine was going to prove that she had done nothing wrong this time, that she could be trusted. Taking a breath in, she looked back up at Cosima. "No. Cosima, please. Look at me."

Not once taking her eyes off of her girlfriend, Delphine shrugged off her jacket and walked over to the chair she was sitting on, crouching down in front of it, so she could be level with the clone while she was speaking. "Listen to me." She began, her voice quiet. Although she was completely telling the truth this time, she knew that what she had done had hurt Cosima, even if she hadn't known she was going to cause this at the time she had done it.

"Leekie was...different. There was...a brilliance about him. Or so I thought." She shook her head, reaching a hand out and trying to rest it on top of Cosima's. "But I did not know brilliance until I met you, Cosima. I knew what I wanted, but you fit into that mold better than anybody ever could, which is why I broke it off with him, I told him that I couldn't do it any more and that I wanted his permission to persue a...consensual relationship with you."

"Please...don't be like this. I know that...I lied, but not about this, Cosima. Never about this." She pleaded with the other woman, her hand slowly drawing back as she fell back onto her knees and just glanced up at her girlfriend. She didn't want to fight over this, she just wanted more than anything for Cosima to understand just how much she put at risk to be with her, and that she would never do anything else to jeopardise that again.
