Amidst the chaos seeming to be going on not just on the island but across the bay in the city too, it was nice to take a moment and just be. Sitting with Rachel and eating candy and popcorn when there seemed to be a moment of calm, who knows how long that’d last, was entirely too fun, especially with the sentiment in question she had brought up. 

Cassie snorted a bit as she popped a piece of candy corn into her mouth, letting out a contemplative hum. “What do you think they’d say? Like would they be good romantic pick up lines, or do you think they’d be super cheesy?” She paused for a moment in thought, “Like, ‘you make my heart beat faster than a haunted house’?” Cassie started laughing, looking to Rachel, “or maybe, ‘I’d never ghost you, you’re my boo’.” She couldn’t help but laugh even harder at that.

There was a strange contradiction when it came to Genosha, an odd oxymoron that meant Rictor both wanted to be as far from it as possible and needed to put his feet in its dirt. It was like a tug of war in his chest, the part of him that pulled the island out of the ocean fighting tooth and nail against the part of him that nearly died in the hospital perched upon its soil with a hand around his throat and a knife resting against the pulse in his neck. It was better, he’d found, the further he was from the actual buildings. He was almost glad that Magneto had attacked him in a hospital. He’d always preferred nature to people anyway.

But people were hard to get away from, even here. He spotted a blonde head sitting in the sand, thought achingly of Tabby for a moment before taking a seat nearby, curious but unwilling to make the first move. When she looked up, he nodded. “I’m a big dirt guy,” he replied. “Sand’s kind of a second choice, but…” He trailed off, raising a hand and letting his powers reach out and touch the sand, letting it climb and shift and pile upon itself until there was a sizeable sand castle in front of them. “I like it okay, too. There’s things a lot lamer than sand castles.” He waved a hand again and the castle collapsed, ocean wave rising to meet it. “You live around here?” He paused, head tilting as he felt the vibrations come off her. There was something strange about them, something off. “You’re not a mutant, are you?”

“Dirt is the first choice and sand is the second. Got it.” Cassie nodded with a slight smile on her face, watching his hand raise and the sand move itself into a sand castle. There was a visible awe on her face, the smile growing a bit as she watched the sand collapse and the water come over the pile that was once a sand castle. “Wow.” Cassie said with a soft breath, glancing at him with a smile. “I think it reminds me of simpler times.” She reasoned after a moment. Cassie never formed roots growing up. It had always just been her and her mom, moving around every few months and never settling down. Her mother was digging at the dig sites, trying to find new artifacts and Cassie was seated in the dirt or sand, overalls dirty as she formed her own castle. She had to entertain herself most of the time if she wasn’t working on the packets of school work. The history behind the artifacts were interesting enough, but she was still a kid. The sandcastle was much more entertaining and building one brought her back to a time before she was a hero, just roaming the Earth with her mother and no weight of the gods on her shoulders.

“Yeah. Um, with Scott and Jean,” Cassie supplied, looking back at him when he asked the second question. “No.” She let out a long breath, digging her toes into the sand and dragging her fingers through it. “I’m a demigoddess.” Though, saying that aloud made her a snort a bit. “I guess, technically. It doesn’t really feel like it most days right now. Malfunctioning powers and a grandfather who won’t even answer me when I call for help. Some gods, right?” She deadpanned with a roll of her eyes.

Genosha was a nice change of pace from the city. The way Cassie could sit on the sand and stare out at the water, see the silhouette of the city in the distance while she sat peacefully. It was nice out there, but it was only nice for so long in the quiet before Cassie started to think a bit too much about her predicament. There was the option of finally caving and going to Themyscria, but the idea of facing Diana and the other Amazons made the girl grimace. She was far too proud for her own good at times, even when she was experiencing utter heartache over her power loss she’d rather not admit this to those she looked up to.

With her cheek resting against her bent knees, Cassie’s head turned when she heard someone sit near her in the sand. She raised an eyebrow at the man and let out a little noise of acknowledgement, “beach fan?” She asked after a moment before pausing, “or a sand slash dirt fan? You know, I haven’t built a sandcastle since I was little, I think. On a scale of one to total loser, how lame is it that I have the urge to do that right now?”

God, this was really how he was going to die. Miguel had always known he’d go out in some unimaginably stupid way, but this kind of took the damn cake. Of all the stupid shit he’d fought in 2099 (cyborgs, mutant cannibals, Gabri in a really dumb outfit), he could safely say that this was the absolute worst. 2099 villains had nothing on the sheer audacity of the Heroic Age. 

So, he was on a skyscraper. With shocking Wonder Girl. Hiding out from some asshole in a Great Value brand Iron Man suit with giant stilts.

He hoped they’d never find his body.

“Oh, you’ve done plenty enough tormenting. This is your fault. We’re gonna get killed by shocking Stilt Man and that’s on you. It’s really, really important to me that you’re very aware of that.” One of the stupid stilts hit the ground, signaling the giant idiot was getting closer to finding their hiding spot. Miguel let his head fall back against the wall behind him, bringing his fist up to his mouth and letting out a muffled groan into it. “Can you hurry up and fry him or whatever? Just. Get him with lightning.”

Cassie tried to help, to do what she could while she was powerless. She was stubborn, intent to still be Wonder Girl. She wanted Diana to be able to rely on her, but there wasn’t much she could do she had come to discover. It bit her in the ass entirely too much in this exact scenario. She bit back an annoyed groan when the ground rumbled as a stilt hit the ground, the villain in question getting closer and closer to where the pair had taken to hiding.

“It is not my fault!” Cassie hissed in response, “how was I supposed to know he has a vendetta against Spider people and seemingly the color red!” She looked down at her red uniform and let out a huff, having to look away. It was harder having to stomach staring at it these days, it staying in her closet, tucked away with her lasso as she tried to pretend that it didn’t tear her apart. “I can’t! I’m not—” She swallowed hard, “I don’t have my powers. This lasso is just like a unbreakable piece of rope at this point.” Cassie muttered quietly to him as the buildings seemed to rumble once again from the large steps Stilt-Man took.

“So...is this for a date?” Cassie grinned and asked as she sat on Donna’s bed. She had come from Genosha to visit her sister, aimlessly going through her closet as little sister’s do to see if there was anything that she could take. “I just, it looks like your closet exploded a little bit, is all.” If it was a date and it was a date with who she thought it may be with, Cassie was a bit wary of this. She had been, but tried to bite her tongue in that regard to not cause another fight with the older woman. If Donna was happy then Cassie wanted to be happy for her as well, despite her reservations about it all.
