The Marionette shook its head. “N-N-Not in time out-t-t.” it glitched softly, although that wasn’t entirely true. It was tied like that because it had a tendency to not play nice with parents, and strings didn’t always keep it in place. “K-K-Kept-pt here t-t-t-to protect-ct-ct-ct-ct…”

Maddie made a thinking face, her nose scrunching a bit. “Who are you protecting? Is someone in danger?” She was going to ask another question when someone walked up next to her, a man with bright blue hair. “Making friends, I see.” He laughed.

The Marionette instantly silenced itself, observing the newcomer. It generally distrusted adults that it didn’t know, and after that last answer to Maddie’s question, it felt it was obvious who it was supposed to be protecting. Precious children, never meant to be hurt or upset. Adults, their collective reputation tarnished by one murderous man. The puppet tilted its head, a low static hum now emanating from its speaker.

Maddie smiled at the man, nodding. "Yea! They're not like the other ones. They--:" She turned back to the marionnette, wondering why it was making that noise. It was soft, but Maddie heard it easily. "WHat's wrong, friend?"
