2016
So 2016 is here! January is coming to an end and I was wondering what has happened so far. 1. I deferred my diploma programme for 2 things - 2nd degree and new job. My degree Programme is starting next Tuesday. I applied for a General degree last year and was accepted in October 2015. Acceptance was expected as I already have my first degree. I chose this General degree as it allows me to take up to 8 years to complete. It is one of the main reasons as my primary focus is my career. The highlight of this programme is the flexibility to choose the modules I am interested in! Most degree Programmes have a fixed set of core modules to complete in order to graduate. Mine does not. I can pick any modules that are offered by the school and accumulated enough credits to graduate. All to be achieved in no longer than 8 years. I decided to take 2 modules this semester to see if I can manage the load and fit them in my schedule. If things are smooth sailing, I would take up either higher credits modules or increase the quantity. New job. Started on the first day of 2016, I was really nervous as I left my comfort zone and took a leap of faith when I accepted the offer. I have been roped in to a few new projects which is great. 2. ITIL certification To be qualified for my new job, I signed up ITIL certification. One of the perks of being a Singaporean is not only does the government encourages the people to continuously improve ourselves, they provide funding to ease the financial load off some of the more expensive courses. I signed up for the ITIL course through NTUC Learning Hub. The course has only 4 workshops and cost over $1300! However, there are some PMET subsidies which lowered the fees to approximately $950. On top of that, I have the $500 Skillsfuture fund which I have yet to utilise. After using all the fundings and subsidies, the ITIL course cost only $450. I could have lowered the fees by another $250 if my NTUC Union membership was still valid. Unfortunately, it showed terminated in the system. 😑 By the way, did I mentioned that my degree has government and alumni subsidies too? 3. Punctuality I have being arriving at the office not only on time but early! My official working hours start from 8.30am to 5.45pm. So far, I would step into the office at 8.15/20am. Accomplishment! Wrap Up Even though it is a norm to feel really excited about the new year, it makes a difference if I have laid out a plan and got to check off the things completed. Before 2015, my new year starts with a bunch of items in my new year's resolution which I never seem to be able to accomplish. Since 2015, my approach changed to take baby steps and work towards my goals. My goals for 2016 are similar to 2015. 1. Continuous learning - reading and studying 2. Healthier lifestyle - basically no relapse of GERD and maintain or drop the weight 3. Stay in contact with my close friends 4. Feel confident and happy
