It’s never good to be caught in a beautiful trap, especially when you’re trying to do your job and accidentally step on one. Well that’s exactly what happened to him, it happened so quickly he didn’t have much time to respond. When the pain swept through his leg, he tried his best to get it off before it broke his leg completely. The trap was already sinking its way through the flesh of his leg, towards the bone. Every attempt of him prying it apart would be muse, his hands coated with his blood.

He gave a nod, listening to the other when they had opened it just enough they took that opportunity to pull his foot out. Hissing in pain from the teeth leaving his bloodstained skin, dripping down his leg in black and red. Then looking over at his leader, his hand was still holding the trap.

❝ Sir what if the trap catches your hand if you don’t pull away in time. Shall I assist you? ❞

Oof...that looked painful. A trek back to the rendezvous point for the two of them, but rather that than lose a soldier. Once he was sure Nathan’s leg was free, Tord shook his head, easing his fingers off the trap, keeping the stick firmly in place.

Within a split second of removing his hands, the trap snapped shut, snapping the stick in two. Now imagine if Nathan had hit the sweet spot of the trap...he’d have no damn leg from the knee down. Once stood, he turned around, an arm out, offering for Nathan to lean on him.

“I’ll take you back to base. The mission will be fine on it’s own.” Part of the problem may ell have been there were too many people. That’s what Tord gets for wanting to leave the office.”I can’t do much for your leg here, but if we’re quick, I can’t imagine you’ll lose it.”

He jumped at the voice, wincing in slight pain, he had only wanted to rest a bit before he got out of the building… maybe find some clothes that aren’t full of dried blood.

“Sorry, but I needed some kind of rest after what I’ve been through. Explosions and then vivisection is pretty exhausting.”

Okay, maybe saying that hadn’t been a good idea, but he was sore, tired, and low-key having a panic attack.

...Dammit. Tord stopped tilting the glass, pulling it in towards his body to act like he hadn’t been about to pour it all over this halloween-ass intruder. Explosions and vivisection, though? Maybe there’d be an interesting story through this inconvenience.

“I suppose I can’t fault you for what is technically going to your own home to sleep. Can I get you anything? Painkillers, water. a face scrub?”

“I used hypnosis on some of my soldiers but most of them came to me due to me speaking of about dealing with the misfortunes of the world… Well, I did deal with most of those but there’s a resistance that’s still alive and the leader is my commie.”

Oh, they weren’t going to get along. Still, Tord didn’t let the smile slip from his face, even if it was hard not to twist it into a snarl.

“Hypnosis? I can’t say that’s a method I’m familiar with, or ever had to employ...”

“I would recommend you stop doing that.”

“I started my army due to some interesting situation that I encountered when I was a teen, unlike your Tom who became a drunk…. However, I know that your Tom is still weak unlike me who has conquered most of my world…”

While this Tom wasn’t wrong...Tord’s eye did twinge when his own Tom was called weak. He didn’t bring it up, that was a fight for another day. “Well, an army can’t have two leaders.” Or, more, Tord wouldn’t allow such a thing. “I wonder how we differ, Thomas - what’s your method?”

He saw someone coming,expecting another fellow soldier not his leader. So it did make him rather nervous, when they approached and we’re helping him out of the trap. Giving a quick nod, preparing himself for the hellish pain to come, calming his breathing.

❝ Yes sir..I’m sorry for putting a pause on the mission. I suppose this counts as a punishment in a way ❞

Punishment? That was a mildly startling statement. Reprimand may be in order for not watching his step, but it wasn’t a just punishment to be caught in a beartrap. 

“Don’t consider it a punishment, just a lesson about watching your step.”

Part way through speaking, he levered the trap open between his robotic hand and the stick, gritting his teeth from the effort. Ah hell this was going to be fun to release.

“Quick now.”

Waking up to something weird going on wasn’t out of the norm since Tord had left his friends in London those few years ago. The Red Army wasn’t in full swing just yet, so he’d occasionally wake up to a soldier crashed on his couch, or Paul helping himself to snacks in the kitchen. What he wasn’t entirely expecting though? Was himself. 

Well. Seeing himself didn’t startle him, he’d met himself many a time. The problem with this particular version of himself? He was covered head to toe in...carapace? 

So of course he did the mature thing; he fetched a glass of water, held it over his sleeping alternate, sloooowly tipping it.

“You’d best be planning on paying rent.”

Scouting was meant to be a quiet mission. Tord had opted to tag along because being holed up doing paper work had become hell on Earth, so making up any excuse to join a basic mission? Was an absolute godsend.

...Except, somehow, the scouting party wasn’t being very stealthy at all. There’d been about forty minutes since last incident, when the telltale sound of a bear trap snapping shut caught his attention. Waving for the rest of the party to continue, falling back so he could locate who had stepped on the trap.

“Hold still.” He instructed, picking up a hefty stick and prodding around the ground as he walked, so as not to land himself in the same situation. Once he was close enough, he knelt down, working the stick between the jaws of the trap, opting for using his robotic hand. “This is going to hurt like hell. Are you ready?”

A quick scan for a nametag gave him the name “Nathan”, he’d hunt down a second name once he managed to get his friend here to a medbay.

“Oh, nothing...consider it friendly banter. I’ll hazard a guess and say that based on your getup and near identical injuries - you’ve taken over some failure Red Leader’s army? Or were you the leader from the start?”

This would be a weird encounter, he could feel it in his bones. Or maybe that was just joint pain? Who knew.
