A meal shared
Cain stands and changes, listening for the sound of wild life he can hunt. There's some deer not too far east. Cain kept listening, searching for smaller game first, perhaps quail or rabbit, they had nowhere to store a whole deer... There's a rabbit not too far from the deer looking for food itself. Cain starts heading towards it slowly and silently. It doesn't notice him at all just yet. Cain Doesn't give it time to. He pounces on its spine, snapping it. Tord has so far filled almost all of the empty cans with each of the three berries. Cain changes back to human and holds up the rabbit. Cain: we're back... Caught a rabbit... He smiles brightly at Cain. "That's great. I can cook it a little later." Cain nods and takes some long grass to act as string and ties it to a tree branch, so bugs don't get to it as quickly. He's trying to use some spare bandages to seal the cans. Cain: you... Could use... a large leaf... And some long grass... To make a cover... "I... want to be sure that the berries stay clean... well as clean as they can be freshly picked." Cain thinks for a moment. Cain: do you have any extra clothes? "Just a warmer coat. The bandages aren't used for more than covering my arm and face anyway." Cain: ... Perhaps we could... Go find something... "That could help... a sealable container would be better, but until I can go into town to earn some kind of money we'll have to make due." Cain: ... We... Have money... Not much but... A bit... "If you can remember how to find the cave, we could go into town and I can buy something to keep these berries in." Cain nods. He can easily find the cave again. It smells like them now. He smiles and starts wrapping up the visible parts of his arm and the right side of his face. Cain pulls the money from his pocket, 20 pounds and 50 euro.
"That should be enough for a decent container or some plastic wrap... I hope... I should bring something with in-case we need more." He digs in his bags and pulls out a violin case. Cain: ... Where did... You... Get that... "It was thrown out by a spoiled rich kid that got tired of having to put effort into learning. It took me a while, but I can play well-enough I could use it to earn some tips." Cain: ... Music... They're both thinking of Susan. "If I could get this Word's Tom's Susan... I would get her for you... but he'd murder me the moment he saw me." Cain: no... You don't... Need to do that... "Okay..." His ears do droop a bit. "Maybe we'll find a bass some spoiled rich kid got rid of like my violin..." Cain chuckled at that and starts towards the town. Tord follows after him, holding onto his violin. It doesn't take long for them to reach the edge of the town. It's small and there's not many people but there is a small store. Tord looks around some, walking a bit further into town to find a store. Cain follows at a distance, not wanting people to see them together and think they knew each other. He knew how intimidating he looked... Tord did slow down, trying to let Cain catch up, he didn't mind if people saw them together. Cain let him, even if it did worry them... He honestly didn't mind, no one seemed to be staring at least. Cain was still worried about it... He was twitching... There was a store nearby that Vapor walked towards. It looked like it might have some sealable containers he could use. Cain was nervous. Some people would refuse service to someone like him... They had before... Vapor had this innocent kicked puppy look that would make refusing him a bit difficult. Cain: maybe... We should... wait outside... "Are you sure?" He looked a bit confused. Cain nods. He doesn't like going into stores anyway... They don't like being around people too much... Vapor goes in, finding some decent containers on sale, along with some cheap plastic wrap. Cain waits by the door. He grabs them and goes to the cashier. Cain watches from outside, trying to make himself look smaller. He pays and comes back out, looking a little relieved. "We've got 20 Euro left now." Cain nods. Cain/Soldier: we should head back now. "Okay." He would like to go back before anyone notices the slight twitching from the bag his tail is hidden in. It's cramping badly. Cain walks quickly, hoping vapor can keep up with his faster pace... He barely can, of his tail wasn't in the bag he's have an easier time keeping up. Cain slows a bit when he notices vapor having trouble. He has an easier time keeping up now. Cain gives him an awkward smile as they walk. He smiles back, seems finding two things that are useful put him in a good mood. Cain leads them back to the cave. He gets to moving the berries to the containers. Cain goes over and uses his claws to make a large skewer from a tree branch so they can cook the meat. Once done, he starts making a circle of rocks near the mouth of the cave for a campfire. Cain goes to gather branches for firewood. He's got everything set up, including a little makeshift holder for the skewer. Cain stacks the firewood, leaving room for air to flow through. He then takes an empty can to a nearby stream to gather fresh water. He starts the fire with some difficulty. He should have gotten matches from the store. ... Cain can breathe fire... He could have waited... He still needs to skin the rabbit anyway... Vapor wanted to make sure the fire would be at the right amount of heat to cook the meat through. Cain comes back with the water both surprised and impressed. Cain: you... Didn't need to... Do that... We could have... Lit it... "It's fine, I wanted to make sure it would be just right for the meat." Cain nods and sets the cans directly into the fire, they need to be sterilized. The fire doesn't seem to even phase him. "We should filter that first. Heat won't remove the dirt from the water." Cain pulls it back out and sets it aside. He digs through the bags and pulls out the bandages, along with some other cans. He uses the bandages as a makeshift filter to get the dirt and other particles out of the water. Cain puts the new cans back into the fire and goes to get the rabbit down.
He pulls out and offers his hunting knife to Cain so he can skin and prep the rabbit. Cain declines, claws already out. He works quickly and efficiently, putting the meat into an empty container and the skin back up into the tree to get rid of the excess blood. He takes the skewer and puts some of the meat onto it, setting it in the makeshift holder so it can cook. Cain takes some more and hangs it in another tree to dry out. Hoping it'll keep better. He carefully rotates the skewer. Cain/Beast: tell me when the water boils so I can get it out. "I will." He's been keeping an eye on the cans. Cain grows his wings and tail, stretching them, they ache from staying hidden. He glances over, deciding to free his tail from the bag as well. Cain/Soldier: how long would you say this meat will last us? "Maybe a couple days if we're careful with it." Cain nods as he checks the meat. The meat cooking should be done by now. Cain: tord... "Yeah?" He's grabbing the skewer now. Cain: the meat... "I know, it should be done now." He's using his knife to cut a piece to check it. It's fully cooked. Cain pulls out another container to hold it in. He puts the cooked meat in, pushing it over to Cain. "Eat what you want first." Cain only eats a bit. His stomach can't handle much right now. He carefully eats the rest. The berries can be breakfast tomorrow. Cain/Beast: I think I saw some wild carrots on the way back to the cave, and wild onions. "You'll have to show me, if those are growing in that area there might be more." Cain nods.
