“He remains untouchable because of those friends. Would he remain in power if they somehow…disappeared?” While it looked like she had spent the past few years mourning, she had kept a close eye on Gotham while ensuring that Silver St. Cloud remained in hiding. Regardless of what her step-niece had tried to do, she did consider her a pawn in her step-uncle’s schemes. So, she remained where she was, away from the dangers.
Tabitha was no longer a reliable source of information; her betrayal had kept her locked out of Victoria’s life forever. So, she relied on other resources, gathering information not only on Gordon but also on his allies. It was how she learned what had happened to Harvey ( or Two-Face, whatever name he preferred ); he had been one of the names on that list and had been subsequently crossed out.
It was also through those observations and research that she ended up with a list of every friend, acquaintance, and co-worker that the Commissioner had. Even the less respectable ones, like Cobblepot. The very thought of the Penguin had her lips draw into a thin line, but she focused on Harvey instead. “Everything will. I don’t doubt that you will ensure it.”
While he drank his champagne and whiskey, she’d allowed the ice in her drink to melt, diluting the whiskey even further. “What are you going to do next?” Although she didn’t expect to be told everything, she did like being informed. There was a charity auction and a masquerade ball being held over the next few days. Two events that he could use to his advantage; then again, she was used to thinking like Theo. It was likely that Harvey had a different strategy in mind.
Harvey sat the glass on the tray after a few moments. He needed to truly think about what his next steps were, but the question of where to go from here was quite vague.
One step in the wrong direction could cause everything to crumble.
A step in the right? Could cause just as much harm. It just depended not on the moment, but on luck.
“There is a possibility,” he muses, “that even taking them out he’ll remain. A conversation with the top could destroy creditability, but there is still the situation of how to go about this. Gordon is impressive, he’s firm, but everyone has their breaking point. Put forth the seeds of doubt - even very small - and things will start to crumble. Gotham is a corrupt city. It will always be that way.”
More or less, but mostly on the more side. Whatever forces of decently there were happened to faded as days went by and there was doubt that it would ever get better. He knew that better than just about anyone these days. Truly, he did, and he would attest to that.
“Perhaps,” he says, lips pursing into a thin-line for a few moments, “it’s best to... see just how well Gordon can handle pressure, don’t you agree?”
