always so fucking Funnyyyy to remember that depeche mode was actually initially formed without dave gahan but bc they needed a frontman with good stage presence they got dave to join them. like they saw him perform somewhere w another band and basically were like damn, that guy's cool as fuckkkk we have GOT to have him in our band lol and also. dave apparently had a lot of club connections at the time cuz he was a frequent partygoer and he had many friends in the scene so it was mainly to his credit that they got their first club gigs after he joined depeche mode. (or composition of sound at the time but they became depeche mode after he joined them. the name was also his idea lol.) which like, if u think abt dave gahan, youre like OK, yeah that tracks, guy's a party animal and always has been. and he's an incredible frontman as well. until u remember that at that point he literally looked like this:

I wish there was a way to explain the appeal of Dave Gahan to people who aren't Depeche Mode fans in a way that wasn't fucking embarrassing. Like yes here he is in leather pants dancing like a drunk uncle and I desire him carnally.
